avid to after effects workflow?

I'm wondering what the best workflow is to get from Avid MC5 to After Effects CS5.5. Basically I want to do my colour grading in synthetic aperture. I have tried exporting an aaf file which I then opened in Premiere pro, hoping to then export into After effects. The sequence and clips come into premiere, but show up as offline. The audio is there, just not the video. Is there another way around this? I guess my other option is to export a quicktime reference and grade that (but I'm a little suspect on this technique) I could, of course, export a lossless DNxHD and grade that, but there has to be an easier way (short of forking out $495 for Automatic Duck)

use the quicktime reference, it is instant and is a call to the original media then you keep all the quality
