cool idea, wrong product. The iPad commercial with the kid editing on iMovie in is bedroom looks cool, apple should enable it as a proxy editor for FCP X. At least Avid has the right idea of being able to sync to a desktop, but a consumer hobbyist is not likely to take on this kind of workflow.

All current systems are powerful enough to generate offline proxy files in the background, they don't need to be full res, SD would be good enough, even 1/4 sd would be good enough for playing with on a tablet screen. Media composer has a long history of offline/online workflows, there is no reason why they couldn't make something like that work if they wanted to.

I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but the FCP-X architecture seem like it could be set up for this. It can already automatically create proxy media, I don't know it is is iPad friendly, but an easy upgrade if not.

The auditions editor or whatever it is called that shows alternate takes on a parallel timeline would work for previewing work done on iPad without committing to it completely. I could see this as a very interesting tool for directors and producers to have input without looking over the editors shoulder all day in an edit bay.

I have no coding skill what-so-ever so i put it out there as a challenge. Why not produce a very simple straight-cut editor for iPad that could integrate with major desktop systems via a plug-in.
