Avid or GV Edius for the HVX?

HI all,

Now that my 30 days trial of Edius has expired, I'm still trying to decide whether to purchase it or go with avid xpress pro. Unfortunatly there is no free trial for that. I'm considering purchasing the Panasonic HVX 200 camera. I do some editing for local tv (spots, religious programs, etc.) but my main focus is on tv dramas and indy type films (check out weblink below) thus the need for a 24p camera). Color correction is a high priority and also I'm thinking that editing in Avid is more universal v.s. Edius, should I ever need to take my cuts lists, footage, etc, to a post house to sweeten the audio or shots or output to film (I can only hope!).

Considering all this, I'd love to hear people's take on whether they would go with Edius or Avid xpress.

I'm an Avid guy. Mainly because I also use Pro Tools. Edius at this point may have better P2 features but my main concern is editing. Avid will improve it's P2 feature set (much like FCP just did). Color Correction in Avid Express Pro is good. There's also an upgrade path with Express Pro to Media Composer Software with is MUCH better.

But to each his own.

Avid is close to being good with P2, but it's really limited compared to EDIUS right now. Keep in mind that EDIUS supports every frame rate and every configuration, natively.

If you shot on P2, Avid doesn't support 24P as 24P from 480, 720, or 1080. And you can't edit 30P as 30P either. In all those cases, they only let you edit it as 60i! Avid could really use another revision to properly integrate all the HVX modes (and it's not just the HVX, it would include the forthcoming HPX2100 and HPX500 and any other P2 camera in the works).

If they'd support all the file formats properly, Avid would be a great choice. They already allow editing direct from the card which is very nice.

so in other words, sounds like you would recommend waiting on Avid to upgrade their support of P2, right? over Edius.
