Having problems on the new system built to run avid for my shop. Still using Avid Xpress Pro 4.6 and it worked fine until I reformated the computer and now when i load it up and try to play a timeline with anything in it, it just sits there. It shows the play button turning green but nothing else is happening. I can drag the timeline and everything. We do have another system with avid still running but we need to somehow get this one running cause its the fastest system. Can someone please help me with this problem. THANK YOU!

To add more infomation in hopes you guys can help :
Nothing plays on either source or record monitors. It takes a much longer time to load the title tool than it used to. I import footage or text and drag to the timeline or the source monitor and try to play it and it only shows the frame im on but highlights the play button in green and also brings the audio monitor levels up to probably whatever level that frame of audio was and doesn't do anything more.

Someone please help!

System specs? Video card, type of hard drives, DMA mode? That might help others troubleshoot.

Windows XP Home SP2 (All Updates)

M-Audio Delta 1010LT Soundcard

Sorry didn't think about that earlier.

Probably not the issue, but Xpress Pro is not supported on Windows XP Home and is only qualified for XP Professional. But seeing as it used to work before the reformat....

Have you tried a complete reinstallation?

Hey it worked once I took my m-audio delta 1010lt soundcard out but just didn't have sound. How can I get it working on that soundcard? Im not trying to go buy a whole new soundcard! That thing was expensive and I use all its features in protools!

Move your sound card to a different slot. Chances are you had it in the slot nearest the video card? Sometimes those slots share resources depending on the motherboard.

The problem is likely your graphics card--it's unapproved. You need an nVidia card, not an ATI. You're lucky it used to work.

You can try downloading different drivers for your card to see if one of them will work, but it's not guaranteed.

Otherwise, hitting Play and seeing a freeze frame that won't update until you hit stop is very, very common with ATI cards. Other issues could well be related to XP Home (as was said, you need XP Pro Service Pack 2).

Are you running AMD processors? If so, that can also cause problems. You should have intel chips.

All it all, it's a highly unapproved system. Swap the OS for XP Pro, switch out the ATI with an nVidia Quadro (FX 1500, 1700, 3450 or 3500 are my suggestions), install the Avid supplied drivers for the nVidia card, tweak the OS (turn off simple file sharing, set it to best performance, etc...), and hope for the best.

Michael.

Did you try to set the recording setting on your sound card to off or microsoft recording? There was a fix where you had to make sure the sound card was not being used as a recorder and then it worked. I had to do this with my Delta66
