avid newbie needs export advice

I shot 24pa(don't ask why) and dropped it into avid express pro 5.6 timeline as 23.976. Editing process went fine. As the time came to export to camera(hvx) did not work-can I make it work? Also, will I have a problem burning it on to dvd? Do I need to purchase something like After Effects(rather not) to format or can express pro do that? Remember this, you are giving advice to a novice, so if anyone can give a step by step process on the best way to export my project(settings and such) onto dvd or camera or both, it would be much appreciated.:dankk2:

First of all, there's nothing wrong with shooting 24pa. I'd wager that most of the people here shoot 24pa. Also, for a finished product on DVD, there's nothing better.

Secondly, when you say exporting to the camera do you mean DV tape or P2 card? If P2 card then you must have the newest version of Avid (5.7) to do that.

Thirdly. To export from Avid for DVD you need to export the sequence as a Quicktime Reference file. Choose mastering quality. This will export two files. One .mov file that will be very small and a second AIFF file that will not be as small. Now you need to take these files to an encoding program. You never mentioned what platform you're on, Windows or Mac? Also, do you have an encoding program that you know of? Sorensone Squeeze comes with Avid, but only the commercial boxed version. If you have the educational version then you won't have squeeze.

Without more information that's about all I can tell you. If you have squeeze there's a great tutorial on making a 24p DVD on www.24p.com (go to the Resources link and look for the article).

If you don't have squeeze let me know where you stand and I'll see if I can give you any more help.
