Avid Malfunction. Beginning to hate AVID

I dont really understand what goes on these days with our AVID Systems. They are beomcing so unreliable and it sucks. Its always happening when I need to push a product straight out the door and I never can cause AVID is screwing with me.

Last night I shot a video using default F6 and came to import it using a 29.97 regular timeline using Avid Xpress Pro 4.6

Now when I go to play the timeline, the audio skips making the video start skipping. After a little while it calms down while playing but goes back to skipping. I tried exporting as quicktime but it said cant export the bin or something like that. Then I tried AVI and it just sits at 0% and the 0% eventually just starts blinking and doesn't stop.

WHAT THE HELL? Can someone help me. I sware this is like the 4th post that is similar in problems with AVID and I never got this thing fixed right yet. Anyone? Thanks!

I think he's on the PC platform. Last time there were problems he was going to try to upgrade to at least 4.6.

How did that go, Sketta?

The thing is, in the military you have to go through hoops to get software upgrades. Its crap and I try to push it but it looks like its going nowhere. I made a mistake in my last post. All we have is version 4.3

So thats what I have to work with right now. Any way I can fix this problem today?

Yeah, you mentioned that. :) Last time we went through this you said your IT person was coming up the next day to install the latest version. I'm assuming that was a bust?

Not to my knowledge. 4.3 had some bugs. 4.6 was rock solid for me. That's my best suggestion. Perhaps someone else will chime in with a more military-friendly solution.

Yeah that would be cool. Is 4.6 a free download at all? I know I heard 5.2 is a $50 upgrade. Im hoping they get it soon. IT Person isn't here until the end of the week so I gotta make do. I finally got the footage to capture by switching deck control off.

Yeah, wish it was as easy as just getting that though. They have to go through books of paperwork just to change the default homepage on IE. LOL.

Hey, just upgraded to 4.6 and the capture tool is working good now, it captured the video, when I play it back though, the first few seconds starts skipping (no matter where on the timeline i play it) then after i stop it, errors come up saying :

"CPU Overload: Rendering effects at this point may prevent error." [Error: DMPort Error]."

I press OK then the error comes back with an extra line saying : Error/Status [0x800000013]

Any help?

What do you mean? oh, wait no, nothing, straight from importing it to the timeline.. thats all I did was drag to the timeline. Its weird, any footage does that error as well, also right when I start playing the timeline it jerks while playing for atleast 3 to 5 seconds then it smooths out. I think because of these problems we are probably going to mandate the whole air force to conform to using adobe premiere products instead. I would much rather use Aivd, if it worked. I hope someone can help in this process! Anyone?

Do you have any other programs running (even background tasks like Virus scan)? Is your Mojo plugged in?

I wonder if you'll try something for me, just for troubleshooting. Unplug your Mojo and see if you continue to get the stuttering and error message.

Ok I just closed avid, switched to the deck only and restarted and everything worked fine as far as no error and no studdering what you guys think the problem can be with that mojo?

Wait.... HELP, what are you talking about, my problem isn't fixed! It wont recognize my deck without the mojo and if the mojo is plugged in then i get this error:
"CPU Overload: Rendering effects at this point may prevent error." [Error: DMPort Error]."

No one can help me with this fix?

OK, I think we had a communication breakdown there. Eariler you said that rebooting fixed it, so my assumption was that this was over.

So you're telling me that if you unplug the Mojo that it works, and if you plug in the Mojo it doesn't? Correct?

Didn't you say at one point that you have access to another Xpress Pro machine? Try taking your Mojo there. If you get the error then you probably need to call Avid and being the servicing and / or replacement process.
