Hi Guys,

I was wondering if any of u have had the chance to try the HVX with the new Avid Liquid 7.2 update. I can't find info on how comprehensive the HVX support is. Any more info & help would be very much appreciated.

I use avid liquid since day one. Back then it was called fast six-o-one, then fast liquid, then pinnacle liquid and now avid liquid. I could always use the DVCPRO 50 capabilities of the HVX200 and since 7.2 came out it is also possible to use DVCPRO HD. But just in 1080 not in 720.
I already did 4 jobs that way and so far it performs flawless.

Avid will release the all new chrome xe within the next few weeks which makes it possible to use AJA's Xena LHe card with liquid. Now you can have a HD preview via HD Component and HD-SDI. Beautiful.

Awesome. I love it liquid aswell. Tried all the others but keep coming back. In the new ver do u have a full 1080 workflow (import, edit, render ETC?) Also hope they have 720 support soon so i can use slo-mo.

I use Liquid and also have Edius. Liquid is the best app out there. There is not even close competition if you ask me. I have worked with people in multi-computer editing environments when the record was 4 different ones (Liquid, Edius, Premiere and FCP). I also saw people on Avid. FCP has a nice OS behind, but the software itself is not Liquid. At least the 5.1.2 version I saw. Dunno about FCP6.
Premiere is good with sound, but I still find it awkward to work with.
Edius is a step behind all others and I only use it for P2-720 roughcut-stuff. It misses many keyfeatures (read in my Edius thread).
Liquid missed out here, because it never did 24p. Now the same with 720p. But once you have a format it likes it simply wins with project management, speed, colourcorretion a´la AfterEffects, background rendering, instant save (never lose a step), and my version 6.1 is rocksolid and didn´t crash in maybe 15 months.

I wait for 7.2SP1 and then upgrade, but for now I see no other solution that strong on the market

Hi Ben

I have a full 1080 workflow. Even uncompressed if I want, but for that I would need a hell of a Raid (8 discs and up).
The imported DVCPRO HD files stay nativ and will only be touched on transitions and such. But you can make your own render codecs under liquid so that is not a problem.
The editing on a nice little editing machine like my HP XW4400 is a real pleasure.
I tried edius couldn't get warm with the GUI and the workflow. Here liquid is still unbeaten even by xpress (imho)

Good news: You can do 720 for slomo. You just have to transform it for liquid. I use TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 for that. It allows you to import DVCPRO HD files and the MainConcept codecs you find in this little program are great. You can export to WMV HD, Quicktime, DivX, AVI, MPEG 1 2 4, you name it. It really saves the day.

Happy?

Hi Peter,
I have just ordered my first 16gb card and have never used my HVX for HD(OMG) I have a couple of questions for u. What do u mean u can make your own render codecs? And what do u mean u can do 720p by transforming it? Could u pls explain how i would go about these things. Sorry to sound ignorant. Also do u think my machine will edit DVCPRO HD well enough?

Core 2 Duo E6600
2 GB Corsair XMS2
X1600 pro 512mb
1 x 80gb system HDD
2 x 320gb HDD
Asus P5B Deluxe M/board

Thanks

Not with P2 - 720p/50. I think it handles JVC´s HDV 720p/50 now.
What´s really interesting now is this AJA card that will allow SD and HD I/O for a rather affordable price!
