That's like comparing apples to oranges... almost... Avid Xpress Pro is a semi-professional piece of software. You can do professional work with it, but Media Composer is really the professional version of Avid. Liquid is strictly for the consumer. There's no reason you can't use it to edit something, but you're actually better off with Vegas at that price range.

Apparently Liquid's slated for being discontinued soon too, or at least that's what was the buzz on the show floor at the DMF in Sydney.
Liquid is about 1/3 the price of Express Pro. I have been editing with Liquid for about 4 years now. It is a very powerful program and is an "all in the box" application. This means that you can do everything from SD, HD capturing to creating motion chapter DVD's from within the app. You will find that most users that have used the application for a while find it a joy to edit with.
Unfortunately Liquid has never supported 24p and therefore is probably not too popular with members of indie filmmaker forums such as dvxuser.
Originally created by fast studio, then purchased by Pinnacle and then finally bought by Avid, the application seems destined for the graveyard as Barry Green suggests. It seems such a shame because it has really has some unique features not found in other NLEs. I kind of think that Avid bought Pinnacle to capture the consumer market with thier Studio product but never intended to do anything but kill Liquid. Liquid is fully capable of being used in a professional enviroment yet Avid recently annouced they are moving it back to the Pinnacle... or consumer line. Mark my words Liquid will be killed in the near future.
When you consider that a lot of time is spent learning how to make a particular software "sing" for you it makes sense to look for a program that has the best potential for longevity.
