AVID Liquid 7

Has anyone used this product yet? I just now learned that it was out. It looks something like a AVID windows movie maker. Im sure its somewhat powerful though, is it better than Avid Xpress Pro HD?

Avid bought out Pinnacle. I have high hopes, because I've been using liquid v. 6.1, but my fears are great and many.

It's been discussed some already. Somewhere I saw a thread of where Liquid will fit into their product line, but no one seems to know for sure.

I was a fan of Edition for many reasons. Liquid is a solid program, but not if you want an end-to-end 24p workflow.

So I shouldn't even bother trying to check this one out if im running some Avid Xpress Pro then huh?

7 is coming

7 is coming

:undecided
I should be installing 7 tonight. I have been using LE 6.1 for a short time and usually very happy with it. That is until recently when it locked up trying to record to tape. Still have no answer to that problem and the program persists in that mode. Anyway, I will give preliminary opinion of 7 later this week.

TTFN,

Lee, I think you'd dig Liquid. You can do everything you need to do to make a DVD right there in one application. It's a pretty cool little package fo da dalla.

I've now used several of the functions and imported two projects from LE 6.1 into Liquid 7 and the more I use it the better I like it. I also installed Title Deko Pro and after failing with the automatic registration, registered it manually successfully. At this point I can give a qualified recommendation for Avid Liquid 7.

Whipper, good.

But I love the feel of avids interface. This would be the perfect tool to me : Avids Interface and file organization with Vegas Videos stability and multi format uses! Thats what I want. Is Liquid something like that? If so, I might have to pick it up. I wish they had an avid store in malls where you can go test drive these things!

Whipper, can you keep us informed with more impressions as you go? I'm sitting with 6.1, and am wringing my hands trying to decide where to go . . .

I've based all my editing on liquid for the past 3 years and love it.
. I think it fits in Avids range well and I think it's future's secure as Studio10 depends on it. ( cut-down code) Avid had nothing to compare at Studio level - so that's safe.

I didn't upgrade yet as my next buy will be a better PC , - - - then Avid Liquid 7 , - - - then a HVX , then - er - ah, no.

Wrong order - again - -

WIN LOTTERY, THEN new kit - ah yes ; that was it !

dream-on.

hey Sketta - i just read this on your site -

gulp! - scary movie stuff.

Liquid seems to be a great program with lots to offer. I'm an Avid editor using Xpress Pro HD Studio Complete (!) and have watched with interest as Avid purchased Pinnacle.

You can bet that support for both platforms will continue. Liquid 7 just arrived, so that should tell you that Avid has no plans of scuttling this program. Xpress Pro HD just released new versions as well, and there are more good things to come for XPHD in the near future.

Even though there is a definite overlap on some of the features, Avid is really looking at different markets for these two applications. Liquid for the enthusiast, smaller corporate, wedding and event videographers, and Xpress Pro for inde filmmakers and those whose projects might be shared with other Avid editors or finished at a post house. The Studio Complete product I own has DVD authoring, SoftImage 3D creation, and also ProTools software and hardware as part of the package.

I just got Liquid 7 as well, and plan on putting it through the paces to see what projects it might be right for with my clients. Hey, at $499, it's always going to be a great tool for editing DivX, Windows Media, HDV and MPEG-4 right on the same timeline, right?

Charlie White just did a review of Avid Liquid 7 and not too favorable. It is titled

"Frozen in Time: Avid Liquid 7"

"Solid technology underneath but anachronistic interface has run out of gas"

He sums it up with

"Overall, Liquid 7.0 has first-rate technology underneath, but is hobbled by a woefully shopworn user interface. Also, there’s a rather thin list of new features included in this version 7.0 of the software, making its $199 upgrade price rather steep. I think this version should have been called Avid Liquid 6.5 instead of version 7.0. Another burning question is, will this application even continue to exist, given that there are direct competitors to it in the ever- expanding stable of Avid products? Given the short list of new features of Avid Liquid 7.0, it looks to me like this might be the end of the line for this software package, with its underpinning technology destined for future Avid products. Even if through some unusual circumstance that’s not the case, here’s hoping this old-fashioned user interface will be laid to rest once and for all. Sorry, Avid, but this old dog won’t hunt. 6.0 out of 10 stars."

I have found Charlie's reviews to be fair over the years. But it's the same product he reviewed positively last year, yet he grades it down this year because he says Avid is going to kill it. He's wrong.

Charlie thinks the upgrade is priced too high. Boy, for the features that have come out, I disagree.

Have you seen the review of Liquid at the CreativeCow?

Have you seen the interview Tim Wilson did for Videoguys? If you haven't checked it out yet, you should. I think it sums things up nicely, and certainly entirely dismisses any question of whether or not Avid is committed to it.
