Avid integration with after effect

Hi there.
Anyone has experiences working with Avid and After effects?
I wanna know which would be the best workflow.
My intentions is doing some postpro work on after effects. So i would be editing in avid and then exporting to AE.
Which way is the best in order to obtain (or not loose) quality?
Time is not and issue (i have a death insurence)
Should i export it uncompressed, QT... in single frames...?

I ve been reading things about upreeze the footage to mantain a better quality and at the end downreeze it to normal sizes.
Is that any good?
And if so, how could do that?

I haven´t use after effects much. So this may be a silly questin: Can I import the whole movie (edit in Avid; let´s say twenty minutes) do the effects and render it to export without going back to avid (for a digital cut/ and a final QT reference)
In other words can i make the final cut in after effects.

Too much questions, I know...
Just need someone who show me tha way.
Travis

Export from Avid in Quicktime Reference format, this way you won't lose quality. A digital cut from AE isn't possible if you ask me. I render my stuff from AE in animation compression format and import it back in Avid. Or if you go straight to dvd you can export it in the right format from AE en than decode it as Mpeg2.

Thanks JKL

I will go to dvd but also i will make a digital cut.
so... How big are the files from animated compression. i mean Would be complex to render out a complete short (20 minutes) in that format or should i do it in small pieces?
I just have 80 gigs on my pc. Don´t mind to get more space if i have to.

Have you use bullet sotware in AE?
In your opinion does it really matter to work in AE for color corrections things (for going B&W and do some filmlook type adjustments) comparing to Avid?
Is it worthy?

For going to DVD: Can i make a double QT reference? I mean:First the QT reference from avid to AE; I do the post work, and I make another QT reference in AE. With that QT make the mpeg files in other aplicattion... Make sense?

Thanks again.

Re: Avid integration with after effect

I have exported a 22 sec. movie in animation compression from after effects, and it was 484 mb large. It will give you the best quality I think. I use it for shorter things, not whole movies. Just for adding effects etc. I just import it back in Avid.

I don't have magic bullet, I do color correction in Avid, it has a good color correction tool, but you have to know what you're doing. Magic bullet is mainly presets of filmlooks, so it is easy to apply and to get some result.

From avid you can make QT reference movie, but from AE you can't make reference movie because AE don't manage mediafiles like the way avid does. So if you have the space, render from AE in Animation compression and then convert that file to Mpeg2 in some other program. Or import it back in Avid for digital cut to tape.
