Avid Goes Subscription Mode - Are you interested?

When you click on import and select files you want to import, next dialog box asks if you want proxies and want to leave footage in place.

Good for you then! I didn't get that option, sadly.

Look, I'm sure there is something I needed to do.

The point is that for me personally, Avid is supposed to be so "terribly hard to use", yet for me, it often works better than the alternatives.

Dear Mr Allen- the software works only as good as the user knowledge allows it. Even though Avid is something I have to use in my day job, I also use FCPX for personal projects. I have never had issues with getting footage into NLE- both Avid and FCPX. I would recommend using some tutorials for learning FCPX. Avid is a fine choice, but after gaining some proficiency in FCPX for me it always feels like I am going backwards, when I switch from FCPX to Avid.

I find this bad logic. If this were true, maybe you are not using Avid proficiently to feel it is a step backwards, software is only as good as its user allows it to be. So the problem is not Avid, it is its user. Hell in that case let me dig my video toaster out of storage. See the problem with that statement.

No his logic is sound. What snowblindfilm is elucidating is that there will always be a degree of personal preference even if you're equally proficient in each App.

I used to use Avid in the days of Xpress HD etc and I've recently tried MC again as the opportunity arose and I can categorically state that I saw nothing that would tempt me back from FCPX. It felt extremely dated, a throwback to a yesteryear, in fact, I'm surprised it didn't export the final project with a sepia tone. Certainly a better choice than FCPX in some situations just not mine.
