Avid extending their FCP crossgrade promotion

i wonder when will Avid face the unavoidable stage of re-inventing their NLE engine to fit the times.
hope it won't be a mess.

My 2c is that they will handle it fine.
Before FCP X, Avid had the best metadata handling by far. Not too hard for them to extend it and make "metabins" or whatever.
The audio engine handles Pro Tools plugins.
Next version is 64-bit. The 32-bit version already has native editing of R3Ds, etc. And the 32-bit version managed to handle Inception... Avatar...
I'm sure that they also can make the interface more shiny but not take away multicam, EDL support, source viewer and their awesome trim tool.

Yeah... was gonna say -- AVID is probably the last company you'd worry about handling meta data, haha. Next version is a re-write, 'cause it's 64bit ... not that the 32bit barrier hits AVID much anyways though. If you're expecting some kind of massive leap... I don't think it will happen. It will just crunch through effects faster and export faster. Editing will probably be very similar, since AVID never seems to struggle on its current 32bit code as it is...
