Avid Express Pro/ FS-100/ HVX200

I'm trying this combination. Fairly new at this but have read this forum extensively. I'm finding bits and pieces of my issues.

The FS-100 (ver 2.0) seems to record and playback fine when it's not locking up.
When it locks up, you have to hold the "ON" button for four seconds and let
go. The unit then reboots itself. This is annoying but better than removing the battery as some suggested.

The Panasonic HVX200 is set to 720/24p when recording.
The Playback on the FS-100 seems fine.

Then I mount the drive to the computer. I then mount a volume for P2 viewer.
I get the cool thumbnails and playback the video. Near the end I hear an
audio pop, then no sound towards the end.

When I bring the video into AVID via the Media Tool, I get the
error Audio::PMM_INSUFFICIENT_MEDIA in the Source Window. I found many articles on this forum but nothing really applied. Most issues here were linked to sequence issues. I can do the workaround by creating in and out points to eliminate the bad areas but this is annoying when you have 60 clips to work on.

Does anyone have this same setup? or similar?

Thanks

Talked with Focus yesterday about my issues. They put a new update on their site to handle audio issues at the end of the recording. Actually here is the notice they emailed me. The new bin file was created on 8/8/2006 but not released until yesterday I believe. We'll see how it goes.

Dear FS-100 Owner,

We are pleased to announce that a new firmware version for FS-100 is available for download from the Focus support site at:
http://www.focusinfo.com/support/downloads.asp .

This maintenance release addresses the following:

* Solves an issue where frames could be missing during 720p/24 recordings.
* Solves an issue where audio could be missing at the end of recordings.
* Various disk performance improvements.
* AV/C stream capture to Final Cut Pro is now possible in DVCPRO 50 and DVCPRO HD modes.
* Minor changes to the behavior of the organize p2 progress bar.

Focus Enhancements recommends that you update your FS-100 unit to this latest version of firmware. If you require additional assistance, please visit the Focus support site at: http://www.focusinfo.com/support/ .

So far the update works. No issues with 720/24p audio in Avid.
Although the FS-100 still likes to go to 'sleep' in the middle of shooting from time to time. I can deal with that. Still better than dealing with P2 cards.

Just to finish out this post. As already mentioned elsewhere on this site.
Focus Info is releasing ver 3.0 Firmware later this year.

(as copied from the email they sent out)

"Lastly, Focus announced the version 3.0 firmware upgrade for its popular FS-100 enabling users to record native 720/24p, 25p and 30p in the MXF P2 or QuickTime file formats commonly used in Apple's Final Cut Pro. Native file format support only records the required frames in a DVCPRO HD stream, eliminating the need to remove advanced pulldown or duplicate frames during import to the edit system. The new 3.0 software version also adds QuickTime support for native frame rates as well as other 720p and 1080i DVCPRO HD record modes for DTE workflow within Apple Final Cut Pro, bypassing the normal P2 import process thereby decreasing workflow. Version 3.0 is expected to be available in the middle of the fourth quarter, 2006. "

This will complete my work flow issues. I won't have to pull redundant frames
into Avid and I'll be able to store more on the FS-100 hopefully. So far I'm glad I bought an FS-100 for the HVX200. Still working on some Sorenson compression issues, but that's another post..
