Avid DVD by Sonic - Help

Yes indeed it is Avid DVD by Sonic 5.7 I have been trying to make this blu-ray disc now for over a week, about 10 or more tries, everytime same error message.

Unfortunately I didn't get a case number, the guy got me off the phone so quick with promises he would call me back before his shift ended with the solution.

Here's the project info:

A mixture of DVCPRO HD, and HDV edited in a DVCPRO HD timeline.

All video was mixed down, so that I could export a quicktime reference - (HDV was causing a problem and would not export a reference until I did a video mixdown.)

Quicktime Reference was then Taken to Sorenson 4.3 and I chose Bluray underneath the mpeg 2 settings.

I set the data rate to 24000 KBPS, Bottom field first, 29.97, interlaced
No audio, with a .mpv file extension.

The release notes say that is an acceptable file, however, Avid DVD still does transcoding to it.

I updated my transcoding settings in Avid DVD so that they are the same as my source material.

I fully authored the DVD using a template, I was planning on using a BD-R dual layer 50GB, but I now see only 25GB single layer is currently an option to burn at this time.

I choose burn disc and it begins the process:
1. Building menus
2.Transcoding Video
3.Importing Video
4. Transcoding Audio

Thats as far as it gets, and each attempt takes a good 5 hours or so, because it is a 2 hour high def documentary 1920x1080.

What i have found so far:

I read the notes and noticed I needed 75GB of free space on my "Temp drive" to burn a blu-ray. I noticed I only had 40GB, so I thought that was the problem. I made available 100GB of free space on my C drive, where Avid currently has the Temp folder navigated too. When I tried to burn, I still get the same error.

I thought maybe the problem was that I was trying to burn to a 25GB project to a DL 50GB blu-ray disc, so I went and bought some 25GB discs, but I still have the same error.

At this point I'm not sure what to do next. The Blu-ray burner is a Panasonic 2x, farily new. Its a secondary drive in addition to a sony DVD burner. The blu-ray has successfully burned nemerous SD projects which were also authored in Avid DVD by Sonic.

I wish Avid new what there Error Messages mean, again, the error message is:

"BDMV Export COM could not be initialized"

I have no experience with this problem, but after a little bit of searching it was suggested that maybe it's a problem with Microsoft's .Net Framework. Make sure that you've got 1.1 installed on that machine. You might also try reinstalling Avid DVD.

I know that's pretty sparce on the suggestion front, but maybe it will help.

Good luck.

It let me "write volume" under the burn disc option. After some troubleshooting it let me burn volume to disc.

I'm going to test it out on a blu-ray player right now. The burn time was fast, maybe 10 minutes, the disc media doesnt look like there is a whole lot of content burned onto it, so if it doesnt work I'll check out the .Net Framework, i think i saw that somewhere when i was searching also. Thanks for the help

Avids Response to the problem:

"Dear Mr Papa,

If from within Avid DVD, you try to burn an HD project to Blu-ray
after selecting Burn to disc, the followin may occur

Sonic starts transcoding - then gives this error:
?BDMV Export COM object could not be initialized?
hit OK, process stops.
If you had selected Write Image or Write Volume, after you hit Ok you get ?The disc burning process was interrupted, either because of an error or because it was cancelled. To avoid losing your project, click the ?Try Again? button?? Nothing happens after you click Try Again - you don?t get a dialog to try it again.

Sonic says that Microsoft.Net Framework v1.1 must be installed (from Windows Updates) - once it is installed, this error should no longer occur.

If it still does please let us know, because we are actually a little puzzled that it occurs at all, since BDMV is just the format which gets written to the disc.
( Blu-Ray Disc Movie )

Yours faithfully,

I installed .Net Framework 1.1 but am still getting the erroe message. About to re-install Avid Studio.

The "volume" I wrote and burned to disc was not recognized by any blu-ray player.

Hi so did you find a solution. I am facing the same problem and I also have a panasonic external Bluray drive. I have the.NET 1.1 installed as well (Infact I have 2 and 3 as well.)

I have the same problem: I am trying to output to Blu-ray using Avid DVD by Sonic v 5.7. It doesn't matter if I try to burn to disc or make a disc image I get the same error ""BDMV Export COM object could not be initialized."

I have seen a few direct references to this issue posted around the web, but none of them have the answer posted, just the problem.

I have re-installed the Avid DVD application, I re-installed Microsoft .NET Framework v 1.1, I re-installed Windows XP Service Pack 2, I re-installed Quicktime v 7.2, I re-installed Windows Media Player 10, and no matter what I have tried the error will not go away and I am unable to complete a Blu-ray project.

We used to be able to burn Blu-ray discs and create disc images with no problem on this system. The problem occured after our video card died and was replaced, and we had to do a system restore with the ghost discs that were made by the equipment dealer and update the software to the final point we are at now.

If anyone did figure out the answer to this problem, please post it. Thank you.

Hi, It's been awhile since I got your suggestion, but I wanted to let you know that we did upgrade to Avid MC v 4.0.5 and Avid DVD by Sonic v 6.1 and we are still getting the same error message and unable to create a Blu-ray disc image or disc. Any other suggestions?

Disc Image

Disc Image

Sounds like you may want to have me make you a blu-ray disc image lol.

If your running Adobe After Effects, you may have to dig deep into the computer, sometimes the files between the 2 programs are too similiar and the software gets confused.
