Strangest thing. I've never had this happen with any version of Avid on my PC (currently Avid Media Composer 2.8 on PC).
So all of a sudden I couldn't render my effects. I could play the timeline, but when I tried to render a new effect, the "render status bar" wouldn't appear.
Finally I realized that there was a "creating" folder missing in my MXF file folder. My Avid program runs off the C: drive, and my media files are on an external RAID. But for some reason, Avid couldn't add any new files to the MXF folder--which means it couldn't render any new effects.
Then I go to the MXF folder on the RAID, and try to simply add a new folder within the MXF>1 folder...and I'm told that access is denied. That I don't have Administrator privileges. This makes no sense since I am logged in as the Administrator, and there is no other user.
So I'm thinking it's a mixed Windows XP and Avid MC problem. Somehow Avid "protected" that MXF folder...but it got corrupted or something so that the folder is now so protected neither Avid nor I can write any new files to the folder.
Note that I can create new files and folders OUTSIDE of that MXF>1 folder. It's just neither I nor Avid can create anything WITHIN that folder.
So I looked at the Properties of the folder and changed the security so that anyone and everything can access the folder. I saw a bunch of the options were greyed checkmarks or no checkmarks at all. So I've turned all the checkmarks on. But I don't wanna do anything that affects the folder irreparably (the original MXF files are all there and can be played back fine within Avid).
Any thoughts about what's gone wrong?
