Avid camera/VTR support

I'm looking to buy a cheap camcorder as a VTR to save wear on the DVX100 heads, and I want to use Avid, but as I look at the supported hardware list (http://www.avid.com/content/6399/SUPPORTED%20DEVICES%20FOR%20AVID%20EDITOR%20PRODUCTS.pdf), I'm disappointed by what appears to be a huge lack in camcorder support. Will any camcorder with firewire "in theory" work with Avid, or only those items on the list? If so, I may need to think about purchasing a different NLE, which I really don't want to do. Thanks!

The list doesn't stay as updated as it should... I use the low end Canon DV camera (~$400) and it works just fine.

Would that be the ZR10? Or maybe the Elura? And when the supported hardware list says that Avid supports Elura, does that include all versions of the Elura series? Thanks, I'm just looking for the best solution on the cheap, and every time I find a decent camcorder with firewire for a decent price, it turns out not to be on the official supported hardware list, it's kind of irksome.

any dv camera should work, even if you assign a generic setup to it. a word of advice, you may want to get a camcorder with both dv in and dv out, i know that certain camcorders don't have dv in. this function will allow you to view your work on a client monitor. comes in handy when doing color correction and some other stuff.
