Avid Camera Recognition

With Camera hooked up and on VCR mode:

Start > Control panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Imaging Devices - - - Should show your cam. If no it has nothing to do with Avid

If it sees it start Avid:

In Settings bin:

DBL click "deck Configuration" > Add deck > "generic device" > "dvbasic device"

You should be good to go - Hope this helps....

Thanx for the advice. My computer does see the camera, and when I try the steps you mentioned, Avid HD 5.2 still says that the deck is either unplugged or turned off, and will not recognize it.

I had a hell of a time getting it to recognize my 1 chipper I use to capture. Make sure you delete all decks and ports until all it shows is Firewire on No port.

Add channel

firewire / OHCI > try auto config. If no go, add deck with OHCI highlighted > Generic and DVBASICDEVICE-NTSC

Has to work - If you need to, delete all decks and ports and restart app.... Try again.

ALL with camera on in vcr mode

Okay, I did EXACTLY as you instructed. And it still will not notice the camera. I can import videos into Vegas but not AVID. I had no problem when I had Xpress Pro 4.6 but HD 5.2 is not cooperating. ARGH! Any other advice. This importing to Vegas and converting to AVI, then importing to AVID is killing me!

Are you setting up the camera connection manualy? Meaning, adding the channel and selecting the camera directly from the menu?

I am deleting the channels, and then restarting AVID Xpress 5.2 HD. I then am clicking add channel, selecting firewire and OHCI, then I am selecting add deck and selecting Generic Basic DV NTSC. I tried autoconfigure and it does not even show a deck. I tried the settings for the Sony vx2000 even though mine is the 2100 and it still will not recognize it. I never had problems like this with AVID Xpress pro 4.6 It is very frustrating!!

I don't know what the issue is - you have tried everything I can think of... I'll keep looking into it in case something comes up. Might be worth a call into Avid support.

Woohoo for this awesome guy! This is what fixed the problem. I now have a seperate one, but I will post it later.

(From Kevin- I saw your post on dvxuser. I ran into the same problem. The following fixed my issues. Hope this helps.

Sometimes after upgrading to a new version of software or downgrading to an older version, capture problems may occur.

When trying to capture directly to the CPU from a deck/transcoder/camera via firewire, you may notice that there the deck is not recognized or communicating to the software.

This problem only occurs on the HD versions of the software (Xpress Pro 5.x or Media Composer Adrenaline 2.x). Although, this problem is specific to communicating from the CPU directly to the capture device, there have been cases when this method has rectified capture issues with a DNA device (Mojo or Adrenaline) as well.

This can be resolved by registering the DVBuffers. (this file is a part of the DIO Runtime, which is installed with the Avid software, and is essential for Avid's communication with external capture devices).

To register the buffers:

Click Start, then click Run

In the command line, type : regsvr32 DVBuffers.ax

If you typed this line correctly, a popup window will display a message "DLLRegisterServer in DVBuffers.ax succeeded" (the message may vary from version to version)

If the line was typed incorrectly, the message will report that the registration failed.

"In the command line, type : regsvr32 DVBuffers.ax"

Ahhh - **** man! That is what I did when I couldn't get may cam to capture - From the same thread. I totally forgot when you were having grief!!
