Avid and P2

So what's all the buzz about using avid with p2 workflow? What does avid do better with P2 and DVCPROHD that other editing platforms don't?

It allows you to copy P2 files into an awkward folder structure and edit them directly once you rename the clips and figure out what the hell they are. :)

Another way of explaining it would be - you copy your P2 files into a folder (don't know what's awkward about it to be honest) and then load up Avid, run media tools (which takes a second) and all of its there - audio and video married in sweet harmony ready to edit.

I think it's amazing to be honest.

What's awkward? You have a bunch of folders with arbitrary and meaningless numbers, filled with files have equally meaningless names. What time you save in copying files you use to figure out what they are from the media tool.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome. Avid media managment is second to none, IMHO.

Avid is currently one of the best ways to work with your P2 clips since it's been supporting the MXF format for a while. If only Apple would get on the ball and let Final Cut Pro and (please!) Quicktime read MXFs.

And from what I've seen, the codec quality for DVCPROHD import from Avid looks much better than the codec from Apple.
