AVID always resizes still images?

So let's say I've got a jpg that is… 5000x3000. I want to maintain this resolution to allow zooming in without pixelation. How do I do this in AVID? It seems that AVID always wants to resize to my project resolution (1080p, etc).

I believe you can change that under your Import settings in the main project window. I don't have access to my Avid right now, but I'll double-check later.

If you could please check later, that would be great. I have looked at the import settings and have not been able to see a solution to this. This only option is to not scale SMALLER images. Bigger images, however, don't get the same treatment. Much appreciated.

Avid imports pictures and turns them into video media, at the same resolution as your project settings. It doesn't keep the picture's native dimensions. If you want to do moves on stills, you need to use Avid PAN AND SCAN, or MOVING IMAGE plugin for Avid.

Thanks, this is what I figured! "Solved"

Avid Pan & Zoom not Pan & Scan. That is a different effect.

Hey Michael - just a further question about this issue. I've lightly played around with the effect and found that AVID asks you to "point" to the high resolution image. However, doesn't this file now fall out of the paradigm of AVID robust media management? I mean... if this file isn't being duplicated into the media files folder? I assume you would have to manually copy this file if you ever intend to share your project? Also -- would creating AAFs still be possible with this method? Does this image file get included?

+ 1 on that,
also- is there a more reasonable way to "upload" a bunch of images?
suppose i have 1000 jpegs, do i have to open a separate effect for each one and load it ??

All good questions, and unfortunately the answers are "no". The only MXF wrapped Avid MediaFiles is the eventual render you do in the timeline. There is no way to do a batch "point to" the stills when dealing with lots of them. That is something I will ask Product Management to put into the backlog. When working across platforms, all files need to be manually managed (kind of like AMA). What I don't know is whether the rellnk happens automatically of if the UNC needs to be reestablished again.

thanks.. i think the Pan and Zoom is a good tool, but in itself it's kind of a hassle when you want to deal with ful res pics.
Avid must think of a better trick, maybe first to import all jpegs for draft work and then include an option to replace all pictures (from original place) for the high quality Pan Zoom.

If you change a letter of disk (D: ...), links in avid pan and zoom will be broken. It is important to know when you share/copy projects to other system.

You can set the quality in for your pan and zooms in the media creation settings. When you want to go hi-res, sift for 'pre-computes' using the media tool - these are all your fx renders - delete them, then re-render after adjusting render quality settings in the media creation tool.
