Hi i just upgraded to avid 5.03 hd I am having some trouble well I have the acedv i/o from canopus which was working fine with my avid xpress pro 4 it was letting me preview my work on my client monitor and all but once i upgraded I can not view my work on my client monitor (by the way the acedv i/o has analog AV in and out for audio and video plus firewire I use the firewire to capture and the AV's to output to my client monitor)

hope someone can help

Thanx in advance

Could be one of two things:

1. Avid User settings and Deck Configuration from 4.6 are not compatible with Xpress Pro HD. You should delete these settings are recreate them, otherwise some strange issues will arise.

2. Avid changed the way video is sent out through firewire. Gone are the days of blue dot / green dot. Now, if you go under your user settings and then under Video Display, there are two check boxes that control DV out. The first checkbox turns the feature on, the second box turns on real-time effects output. Make sure you've enabled these.

Lastly, I have to ask: Avid 5.03? Where did you get that? The only version of Xpress Pro HD that I'm aware of is 5.0.

Its avid studio came with avid dvd and 3d not the $49 upgrade, ok I was already able to get the preview through my Camera but what i want to do is set it back up the way i had my xpress pro I want to send the video out through my AV's that are on my capture cards, is there a way to do that ?

Its the Canopus acedv i/o it has a firewire plus in/out AV's for audio and video specially so you can output to a client monitor. I am trying to get my video to the client monitor through analog.

You said that already. Sorry about that. :embarasse

I looked up the specs on this card and I've got to admit that I'm flying blind on this one. I have absolutely no experience with this type of card. Avid usually doesn't work well with this sort of hardware. The fact that you got it to work with 4 might have been a fluke, or they may be some settings for the card itself (in Windows, outside of Avid). Generally Xpress Pro only sends out through Firewire or Mojo (which arguably is still firewire), and not PCI devices. Also, with the upgrade to Xpress Pro HD, many users who had been using Matrox cards to get a monitor out were no longer able to. You can check the Studio forum at www.avid.com. They might be of more help.

Another option would be to buy a cheap PCI Nvidia card with a TV out and use that to send to your client monitor. You'll only get a quarter of the full resolution (but I'd bet that's all you got with your Canopus in the first place).

Hope that helps, or I hope someone with more experience with this can jump in.

Well actually I was getting full res and realtime effects playback once i rendered the effects, by the way the system I am using is a workstation from dell which is configured to run xpress pro. I was going through the manual and i came across to setting my card to direct on com1 but that didn't seem to work well thanx for your help.
I will post at avid.com see if I can get any help there.

Thanx

According to Caution it's only for the Studio package. And now you know as much about it as I do.
