My station is going 16:9 soon, (not HD don't ask me why, it's a stupid move). we can input 16:9 SD into our newscutter but we are having trouble exporting the footage to 4:3 using a Sony DVCAM deck. Is there a setting I can't find in Avid that can do this? It squeezes it and we are looking to just cut off the edges.

Thanks

Pan and Scan. Set it to 16:9 (I assume anamorphic) input and 4:3 output. It will unstretch and scale your image. I think it's realtime too. No reason to go to AE for this.

That's what's going to happen when you take a 16:9 anamorphic image, unstretch it, then center-cut for 4:3.

Playing back 16:9 anamorphic material on a 4:3 TV will be letterboxed. If you don't want the letterbox and just want to cut off the sides you have to blow it up about 33% to do that. Pan and Scan just does all of this in one step.

Michael.
