AVI file (converted MXF) says "No Data"

I've converted my MXF files, edited the video and exported the final production. The project was on a separate hard drive. I plugged it back in today and tried opening one of the AVI files that was originally converted from an MXF, but it says "No Data."

I'm positive that the filenames haven't been changed, since I haven't messed with it since the last time it was working. Does anyone know why these converted MXF files would say "No Data?" I can still view the MXF video in P2 viewer, but I can't view the AVI's.

I converted them with Raylights "Raymaker." I'm seeing "No Data" in the Windows Media screen when I try to play the video.

Did you move the Raylight AVIs out of the folder they were in? Did the drive letter of the external drive change?

If you have Raylight 2.0, or better, you can create self-contained AVIs which you can move around and don't need the keep the MXFs for. They'll be much bigger than the Raylight proxy files you're currently creating, though.

I had the same problem, I updated Raylight to a newer version WITHOUT deleting ALL files from the old version, hence 'no data' message. If you have updated, make sure all remnants of older versions are off the computer.

Yep, that's it! The stupid drive letter on the external HD changed! Ahh! Well, I'm gonna update to Raylight 2.0 anyways. Thanks!

Something else which may help you in the future: use the Control Panel, System Administrator to assign a drive letter like "V" to your media drive. That way the drive letter always stays the same.

Even with Raylight 2 the drive letter is an issue if you use Raylight Red and the proxy (non-self contained) AVI feature.

The correct place to change drive letters is Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management. Select a volume, right-click, choose Change Drive Letter.

If you dont need the proxy you can choose "self contained avi" in the Raylight control panel and then you can move them anywhere you want.
