Average Wireless Rental Price? Discovery Channel nees my wireless...

I just got a cal that Discovery Channel is filming Horders in my area, and is missing 2 wireless units. They want to rent mine. What should I charge? I don't want to gouge, but I don't want to be taken.

I haven't got my call back yet, so I want to be prepared.

I would charge the same rate as the major rental house in the nearest big city (San Francisco?) Likely similar rates in most large cities. You can probably fine online rate-cards for a few of them. Being an individual, I would have concerns about security (deposit? insurance rider?) and about getting paid (we've heard horror stories, not necessarily about Discover Ch.)

Thanks guys, but now they say they figured out their issue and don't need my stuff. I was hoping to take in a couple hundred over the week!

What I had to offer was a G3, a G2, a COS11D wired for sennheiser. One Rode lav and 2 PinMics with Sennheiser connections. And one Lectro UCR195D with a Tram Wired for it. Just for reference, what would be fair daily price? Considering this is not rental stuff, but my personal collection...

Grant, I don't know whether its a production company working for Discovery or now. They are shooting an episode of Hoarders, so I figured it was the real deal. I spoke with a guy named Mike West who said he sent out the audio stuff to them, and 2 wireless units were missing when it got there. He wasn't sure if it got stolen, or if he just didn't check close enough when he sent it off. The assistant Producer was "Marissa" and the audio guy was "Spence". Don't know last names, but maybe you guys may know them if you travel in the same circles...

I know Mike West. He's a good guy.

$40 a day for a g3 is really high. I used to rent them out for $15 or $20 per day. The higher end stuff, like Lectro 400 series can get up to $40 per day, and the Zaxcom digital wireless can get up to $50 or higher, if memory serves me correctly. Don't forget about weekly rates. Some places do 4 day weeks, and some do 3 day weeks.

I wouldn't bother renting it, it's not worth risking it getting broke, or "misplaced" for thirty bucks. Not to mention if you did end up renting it, something would come in and you wouldn't have your gear to do it. lol, Murphy man, loves to show his face when you least expect him to. hehe

Wow..we get screwed here in Wisconsin. Rental houses in Madison and Milwaukee usually have nothing ENG style of any quality for much under $60. I would love to even have access to Zaxcom.
