AVCintra injest?!

I've always ingested my MXF files as DVCPRO HD... Someone told me today to change the ingest codec to AVC-Intra for better image quality when ingesting... My question is, if DVCPRO carries 8-bit color and the HVX only encodes DVCPRO, what the heck would be the benefit of ingesting to a codec like AVCintra that has a 10-bit color space if it's originally encoded in 8?! Am I totally confused myself, or am I getting fed a heap of BS? I get about 40 mins of 720 on 16GB with DVCPRO and according to Panasonics website, I'd get the same out of AVCintra... so if the image quality is going to come out the same, it doesn't seem like a benefit of storage space either lol?

Help? I think?

You'll actually lose some detail when you transcode to another lossy codec because no two codecs produce the exact same output. Even if you were to transcode to a completely lossless format, you wouldn't gain anything because the lossless codec won't recreate detail that was lost when the DVCPro HD was encoded in the camera.

Is this also true if you record to an external 10-bit recorder such as the KiPro Mini? I would assume ProRes would compress it more correct? What about other codecs?
