AVCHD viewing and conversion to ProRes on OSX...

I run CS5 alongside FCP on the same Mac in OSX. If you are going to have a lot of use with the AF100, I would suggest buying at least Premiere CS5. If you have a Mercury-enabled NVidia card like the FX4800 or GTX285, you will get accelerated rendering and be able to play native MTS files in the timeline without rendering. Final Cut cannot do this without rendering or pre-conversion to QT. Plus if you buy Premiere you get Encore thrown in which is a great DVD/Blu-ray authoring app. You might have an old copy of Premiere which can use for a cheap upgrade or even try eBay where you can find cheaper (legit) CS5 software that are overstocks.

A tip here; I benched the expensive FX4800 Quadro against the GTX285 and saw no difference in render speed. Save some money and get the cheaper card. Apple has been absolutely hopeless in releasing updated power cards to their range so you may have to search for a discontinued second-hand 285.

Yes. The reason they say "unwrap" is because the footage is placed in new packaging, not adjusted in anyway. After Clipwrap, you can use MPEGStreamclip to convert (or other softwares for that matter).
Clipwrap (latest version) will also transcode footage to ProRes, while keeping the time code and LCPM sound quality, something Streamclip will not. Native FCP L&T will crash the system if you record LCPM sound, particularly longer clips.

I can play mts files (up to 3 simultaneus clips) in premiere pro using a i7 920 and 6gigs of ram, no mercury engine..... I guess it depends on the power of the processor...where did you get the mts files from Barry, I'm really interested on working with an af100 mts file to see how it performs.
