AVCHD / Vegas Workflow

It is a pretty interesting article but I think it misses an important concept. It talks of using a batch file to combine the 4GB segments that make up a a clip. In Vegas Pro 9, just use the Device Explorer to import your clips. It automatically combines any individual 4 GB segments into the the full clip. IOW, if you have two 4 GB files and one 2.1 GB file that represent a single clip, Device Explorer will create one 10.1 GB mts for Vegas. It also has the great benefit of giving every mts file a unique name which is great if your project spans multiple SDHC cards.

Also, I think the author should at least mention the option of using nested vegs rather than "rendering down to a single track"

Hi folks, my first post here and I'm the one who wrote the article.
Hi Jerry, I think we communicated about this a few weeks ago. The article was slanted a little more toward "these are the choices we made" but did not necessarily point out alternative solutions. That's one of the great things about Vegas, that there multiple ways to deal with most problems. At that time we were dealing with somewhat older hardware and I don't know that nested veg's would have done us any good, but it could've worked well under different circumstances.

Looking forward to learning more on this forum!

Hi David. I think I posted here before you and I connected. Your points are good and I hope I didn't come across as being critical of your article. I appreciate you taking the time to share you Vegas experiences.

I should have pointed out in my response here that using Device Explorer can be a lot slower than just transferring files using Windows Explorer. Still, when time permits I like using Device Explorer for the reasons I posted here.

I too look forward to learning more on this forum, and hope you will continue sharing your experiences!

Not critical at all! I've worked with computers, video, and music for years but writing is new for me. I appreciate the comments; improvement is good for the soul!
