AVCHD transcoding

Using CS4 on a PC and when I try to edit 720/24p footage it's jerky, drops frames, etc, even when I load up the clips using the new 720/24p presets in CS 4.1.

I tried to take some good advice and first transcode from AVCHD into DVCPRO HD, heard how much smoother and better that is for scrubbing.
I found the .mts clip from the cam, loaded into the program and then….nothing. I cannot access the Output window, I cannot type in it, I cannot push any button to start the transcoding, nothing. I cannot push any buttons in the Processing window either, the only windows I have access to are the “Transcode To” and “Input” windows but nothing below them, I can see those lower windows but cannot use them.

Anyone have an idea how I might transcode or otherwise down-rez my clips for editing?

Right, don't extract the .mts files from the PRIVATE folder. Leave it all intact. Those other files contain metadata which the Mainconcept transcoder insists on having. Point the transcoder to your STREAM or BDMV folders and then the output option will be accessible.

Hopefully you still have those folders with meta-data. There are methods to reconstruct them I believe (I think they are all text files), but it isn't a tried-and-true workflow and I imagine it could take a little doing. Sorry I don't have the details, I learned fast to keep my PRIVATE folders intact and haven't needed to research it.

A-ha, so that's what it is....woulda been nice had that piece of info been included with the software! Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience in this regard, was wondering how such a straightforward piece of software would not work.
