AVCHD transcoded to DVCPRO strobing

I just made the move from SD to HD with the HMC 150 but am running into problems.
1. Even though I have a Intel(R) core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600@240GHz, 8.00 GB of Ram box I find myself unable to edit AVCHD files. The moment I move the current time cursor in CS4 Premier Pro time line everything freezes up. Is there anything I can do to improve this?
2. AVCHD files transcoded to DVCPRO show an totally unacceptable amount of vertical strobe. Is there a solution to this? I feel rather frustrated not being able to get good footage out.
Thank you for any help anyone can offer!

I use the Main Concepts AVCHD Transcoder provided by Panasonic after copying the file folder from the SDHC card onto my hard drive. Thanx, Rainer
PS I am running Widows XP(x64)

1) I have the same processor, RAM, Vista x64, and CS4 and run into the same problems. As far as I know, it's a CS4 thing. Some people are having great success with it and AVCHD, some aren't (I fall into the latter group)... so until Cineform Prospect HD v4 comes out, I've just been transcoding to DVCProHD with the Main Concepts transcoder... which brings up...

2) I have no idea what to tell you. I've not been having any issues with either 720p or 1080p and the latest version of the transcoder. What are you shooting at (720p24? 1080p30?), and what are you setting the timeline in CS4 to? Maybe with that info someone else might have an idea.

I have issues with that, too. I have a slower 2.5GHZ Core 2 Duo, and dropping native AVCHD onto an XDCAM EX 720/24p timeline just murders premiere. Doing basic trims, resizes, etc. Premiere just flat-out crashes. Quite depressing.

Vista 32-bit and XP 32-bit.

Mike, thank you for your response. I find it reassuring that you have good luck with Main Concept transcodes. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have tried 720p24 and 1080p24 with appropriate adjustments in premier project settings. 720p24 shows a great deal more vertical flickering during slow pans than 1080p24. The 720p24 files play smoothly with terrible flickering in the project window were as the 1080p24 files play with decited jerks but much less (still not acceptable) vertical flicker in similar pans.

But you haven't tried viewing it on a TV or anything yet? If not, I think I may know the problem... are your source and project windows set to draft, automatic, or highest quality?

Thank you!!!! I had been using automatic quality (it always worked well in SD) by turning on Highest Quality 95% of the flickering is gone! No I have not played anything on a HDTV yet. Great to know helpful people like you are out there!
