AVCHD to MPEG-2 or h.264

I am trying to decide whats the best format for export for Blu-Ray. I've done a few test renders using PPro to both MPEG-2 Blu-Ray and h.264 Blu-Ray. At the same data rate there is no noticable difference to me in image quality between the two, however the MPEG files are much larger but render in no time, whereas the h.264 files are smaller but take forever to render.

My question is, is there any advantage of one over the other for compatibility with blu-ray players, and is there any best practice anyone has found success with and wants to share?
 
I believe that really old DVD players have problems with H.264; that's it. If you have the space on the media, use MPEG-2 I guess.
