Hi, a month or 2 ago I posted about a problem I had. I had accidentally (YES ACCIDENTALLY) deleted a folder containing files for an important project. I just wanted to update everyone and in addition make a recommendation for the software that saved me, and could help should you ever encounter a similar problem. This was user error, nothing to do with the camera, which works great, ALTHOUGH the software does allow recovery from SD cards, etc. In case you're unfamiliar here's the back story:
A couple of months ago while trying to make room for another project i selected a folder to be deleted. The PC laptop I was working on at that moment (with an external fat 32 drive, as I usually work on a MAC) somehow selected a DIFFERENT folder and deleted much needed files. I wasn't able to undo this on the PC, something I could easily correct on my mac. Things I learned after some errors, first (at least for me) stick to working on the mac (which I wasn't able to do as I had leant it to one of my guys for a same day edit). 2 if you ever delete anything and it's undoable, do NOT use the drive again for anything. Eject and disconnect it until you're able to work on recovery. Most IMPORTANT, have a good back up workflow to ensure drive failure or user error never leave you in my situation. I'm very good about backing up, but overloaded with work let that one slip, seriously just that ONE, but now I back up like a kung fu master.
Ok so I tried this software Stellar Phoenix Photo recovery and it worked. Only cost $39 I believe. Problem was the clips were broken down into 10 second or so segments, so I sent it to a professional recovery guy to see what he could recover. His expensive software wasn't able to recover playable files, nor as much info, as Stellar Photo Recovery. I noticed then, finally, that it seemed the Stellar software was limiting file sizes to 21mb. I contacted the company and said I need to be able to recover the original file sizes, knowing it could be over 4gigs (fat 32 limits our SD cards have). They responded with an updated version of the software and instead of 3000 tiny files I recoverd 507 huge files, and EVERYTHING is there as far as I can tell, THANK GOD!!! I fully recommend this software "Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery" as it's made for recovering photo and video files like ours. In advanced mode I was able to select the file type I wanted .MTS, so that it wouldn't recover other things I didn't need. Again, awesome software should you ever have trouble. Did what the pro couldn't. Thanking my lucky stars is all I can say.
