Does anyone else have trouble transcoding long clips from the sony fmu128 shot on fs100. I have a 46 minute clip from a wedding ceremony that will not transcode through log and transfer in FCP 6. I can play it in the viewer but only if I let it play through. If I try to scrub through it makes it to about the 12 min point and then skips to end of clip. I have also tried copying the file from the fmu to my computer hard drive and using a third party transcoder (pavtube) but it will only recognize the first 50 seconds of the clip. I can play the clip on the camera no problem and like I said before on the viewer without scrubbing. I have noticed when I receive clip files from another person who shoots with the nx5 and uses Adobe Premier it is always broken into approximately 12 min clips. Can somebody, anybody, please help. I believe FCP 6 is the culprit. If you use a program like ClipWrap you should be able to transcode the AVCHD to ProRes, and then import the clips into FCP 6. But FCP 6 doesn't seem to play nice with long clips (over 20 minutes) from the FS-100.

Can someone else check my math?

The problem is specifically with AVCHD clips over 5 minutes long using LPCM audio in FCP6.
I've had some interviews hang for hours before bailing on the import, bringing in only 10 or 15 minutes of a 30-40 minute clip.

As mentioned - use clip wrap or FCP7 to import and you should be okay.


EDITED TO ADD:
I should mention, the bug was fixed in FCP 7.0.3
So you would need FCP7 plus the first update for it.
 
Thanks all that was quick for this late. I'm sitting here with the flu and shouldn't even be up, but this thing is bugging the heck out of me. I will try clipwrap tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the quick replies.

Ok so I have tried clipwrap, handbrake, and pavtube - everyone will only do exactly the first 50 seconds of a 46 minute clip. Yet I can still play the entire clip on the camera or in the log and transfer viewer of fcp.
