I am using Final Cut Studio 3 (Final Cut Pro 7) and while I have a "lot" of editing experience in Avid I have little experience on FCP (since June).
I am editing AVCHD material shot in 17mbs using HMC150 x 2 and Panasonic S100 palmcorder and transcoded the material as "ProRes422 LT" (not HQ since everyone told me I don't need it because this HD acquisition material will be exported as an SD project) and what I am getting is stops due to what FC calls dropped frames while I was told by everyone that one of the advantages of getting rid of tape was "no dropped frames" and I used 100% Class 10 (not slow Class 4's) SanDisc Extreme SD cards.
For additional information, I have RT set to "Safe" I've tried cutting the video frame view rate to half and even a quarter but not help. Also, the dialog box that is coming up says that I need to change compression rate (where would I do that?) or turn off Unlimited RT that is already turned off or closing open sequences which this is the only one open or lowering the preference for audio real time (which I don't know where or what to do) or increase the speed of my hard disk drives (os and media) which are both 7200rpm SATA's.
In RED is this message in the dialog box which says the it has been determined that the speed of the HDD's need to be faster which I cannot do other than go to 10,000 rpm drives at exorbitant expense which I cannot afford.
BTW, the Apple guys are saying it's the cameras dropping frames and has nothing to do with FC. I told them that everyone I talked to say there are NO dropped frames with the AVCHD format so long as one has SD cards that are fast enough and I am using Class 10 Extreme's that are way beyond the minimum.
So, anyone have any ideas how to help me through this or something I can do to make this work cuz I am committed to AVCHD and FCP for now although I'm thinking about Premier Pro cuz the multicam looks easier AND 80+% of what I do is multicam and will now be AVCHD which Premier does natively; however, I'd love to make this work if possible because I have 11 projects that I am now behind trying to learn FCP and taking in 8 more next week <growl & frown>
Thanks in advance to those who respond.
