Color space is 4:2:0, horizontal resolution is sub-sampled to 1440 when shooting at 1080, 960 when shooting 720. I would not be concerned about compression artifacts due to motion.
I'm wondering if anyone has experience intercutting AVC-I 100 & 50, say 100 for interviews and 50 for scenes? Having shot mostly DVCProHD for the last couple of years, I'm worried about storage needs for a documentary but since the final image will be on large screens, I love the idea of shooting AVC-I 100/1080.
AVCI-50 has 4:2:0 color sampling, a lower spatial resolution (1440x1080 instead of 1920x1080), and more compression. I doubt the differences on the big screen will be stark, but if you're going for maximum quality use AVCI-100.
The compression ratio difference between Intra 100 and 50 is 12:1 vs. 14:1. So, even though Intra 50 uses half the bit-rate, compression isn't much different due to the 3/4 horizontal sub-sampling and 4:2:0 color space.
