Autumn - A Cure for Boredom

Hey Everybody!

First Post.

I guess the first thing I should do is introduce myself...
Name is Krummi and I'm from Iceland. Not as cold as you think, but still cold.

I've been busy editing behind-the-scenes material for a local/slash international TV production and decided to take a break this afternoon and took my DVX (A model, Pal version) out to the back-yard for about 20 minutes. Just trying to get the last of the autumn colors. The following is the result. It's just over 2 minutes in leangth

AUTUMN

Nothing special. Went a little crazy with the rack focusing and shallow DOF, but that was what I was testing out anyway. This is basically the second thing I shot on the DVX since it came into my posession so I'm not familiar with all the settings allthough this was all shot manual.

Editing, some contrast enhancements and CC done in Vegas 6.0

Thanks.

I shot Scene File F6. Cine-gamma and 25p

I also did some contrast enhancements in Vegas along with minor color correction and some saturation adjustments in places.

I enjoyed that. Had a bit of a sad/errie feeling with the score. I like that stuff just as much as that guy who posts stuff with the naked girls in it. ( with the Sony HD cam and the G35 )

Very cool. My college roommates were from Iceland. Stein and Freimann's stories of the countries' beauty didn't include the wonderful foliage so artistically exposed in your video. Nice.

Now...show us some of the mountains, natural springs and saunas I've heard so much about..?? heh.

Thank you for your kind replies.

I'm thinking about doing some more of these "mini" movies, one small concept at a time. It's good exercise without too much hassle.

The music I used for this piece is called "Hildegard Von Bingen: O Virtus Sapienti" and is by the Kronos Quartet who, among other things, did the soundtrack to Requiem for a Dream

nope...

Just zoomed waaaay in and opened the iris waaay up and had the neutral density filter at 1/8

I am however looking for a good 35mm design...

I would suggest you get a tripod or just find a way of keeping the camera still on the ground for your low angle shots. I found the camera movement to be very distracting. Also, there are way too many rack focuses....there is an art to focussing from one subject to another...the timing can make a huge difference to the subtlety of the effect...a lot of them felt really rushed to me.

Try some long shots to establish some kind of context. Too many shots with the same angle/composition leaves me wishing for more variety in your piece.

You have a lot of potential. Keep at it.

Thnaks for your reply!

I agree with the motion sickness effect. I had no tripod available and no means of stabilizing the camera except putting it on the ground. I do think it is better to have some camera motion in these kind of shots because the subjects are completely static and just look like a series of stills (like the last three in my piece) and that's even more boring hehe.

I also agree with the overabundance of focusing like I stated in my introduction. I shot only closeups and went crazy with the rack focusing because I never shot this to be a coherent story or piece. It was initially just a DOF test and maybe a color correction test. It wasn't until I started editing that I decided to make something from it :)

Like I said before; I l like this format. These mini movies and I'm going to try 'n shoot another one today. Your input will come greatly in handy!

Thank you.
