Automatic object tracking for DJI ronin / zenmuse / Freefly movi

Hello guys,

So I've been doing some drone videography lately, and initially had problems aiming the camera while flying a quadrotor in the air, since the entire chassis shifts from the control input.
Originally, I tried to do a sweeping pan shot of a moving object on a field, and just couldn't center it in the frame for more than 5 seconds.

Anyway, I'm an engineer and made a working prototype recently that uses a motorized gimbal and the video feed to track anything I want, using vision algorithms.
Here's a youtube to show what I mean:

So far I programmed in the equivalent of smooth-motion/majestic mode to do smooth sweeps.
Looking deeper, I think I can tap into things like a DJI's d-bus control to make it work with both a zenmuse and ronin. The Movi systems are also a possibility.

What do you guys think? If I were to perfect it and build a little clip-on module, who would want one? Any feedback welcome!
Cheers

Just had a client deliver some third-party drone footage of a huge community in the Texas Hill Country.

Most of the really killer angles were unusable - a nice smooth flight and then a really hard pan with jerky starts and stops - wish I'd been there to direct, it was bad and could have been much better.

I doubt I'll ever get into the drone thing myself, but there's definitely a need for something that makes movements more naturalistic.

Totally agreed.
Do you know what setup they used, and how much money they wasted on getting that footage?

The same thing happened to me initially with a toy parrot quadrotor. Even with creative editing, the short periods of usable footage were well, useless.
