automatic gamma correction

does anyone know what the implications are with the "automatic gamma correction" that is on as default on the prores timeline setting that most of us are faced with when editing 5d footage?

I'm just guessing, but possibly having it on auto will give unwanted artifacting or noise in darker areas or overexpose some areas when not wanted.

Just throwing it out there. More Gamma = brightning the dark areas, but at the cost of noise/artifacting over the image.

To remedy that, I use Neat Video plugin for Mac. Works like a charm!

thanks mozingopj, the thing that strikes me though is that theres an option to switch it off, however it is hidden pretty well and ive not heard any other canon 5d user mention this before. very strange
