automatic back focus correction

Had my DVX mounted to a Glidecam the other day and the whole contraption tipped over. It landed on carpet on the LCD side. When I picked it up it would only focus at Z00 M00(MACRO) I was like "****, the lense elements are knocked out" Then I turned off the camera and turned it back on and the focus seemed to have gone back to normal where Inifinity = M95.

Is anyone aware of self-correcting mechanism in the DVX? Should I still get the cam checked out?

I had a similar thing happen to me recently. I don't know exactly how the lense is built, but it seems to me that the focus mechanism, which is "relaxed" when the camera is off (you hear it rattle when you shake the camera when it is off) grabs on to something (perhaps a rod or flange) when the camera is on. When you wacked the camera, it slid this thingy down it's (rod | flange) and was thus resetting 0 focus to some other spot. When you turned the camera off, the mechanism relaxed and reset to it's off position. When you turned the camera on again, it reset to it's 0 position (which it always does when you turn the camera on).

I doubt that you've damaged the camera. If you have doubt, get a Siemens focus chart (or some other good focus chart) and another DVX100 and do comparison focus tests.
