Autofocus motor noise

Just pulled my camera out to shoot some tests and discovered that the autofocus motor was quite noisy. OIS was off, and even with focus set to manual, the motor still seems to run until the camera has found the focus distance.

Has anyone had to have this motor/mechanism looked at by Panasonic?

I've never noticed the sound of the autofocus motor before. But now it's quite apparent. It's not a harsh sound like something's grinding or broken, just a louder electric motor sound. Hope this makes sense.
 
Well I almost always have manual focus on, but early on when I tried relying on autofocus I recall the low humm of the motor but never a grinding or broken sound. Nothing even close to a noise that made me worry.

So perhaps have it check.. or maybe find another camera and record what the hmc is doing/sounding like?

Yeah, I don't use auto focus much. And I usually shoot exteriors where I'm not going to hear much camera noise either. I'll take it back to the dealer and see if they've got another 150 I can compare it to.

I've put my ear to the camera and have not been able to notice much. if any noise. Do you notice any other AF issues?

Autofocus seems to be working fine, just noisy. But if you put your ear to the camera and can't hear anything, then I definitely have a problem with my camera. Taking it in today for a check-up.

Well I can hear it focus but only when my ear is pressed tight against the side of the cam in a quiet room. Can't hear it when my ear is an inch away from the cam. And I have really good hearing (I can hear those annoying tones only teens are still supposed to be able to hear).

From too many years in too many edit suites with to many CRT monitors I know I can't hear any thing above 15,750 Hz (NTSC horizontal scanning freq) :violin:

I took my camera in to Provision here in Vancouver and compared it to one of theirs. Mine was much, much louder so there is definitely a problem, taking it in for service tomorrow.
