Auto White Balance

For "run-n-gun", I HATE having to white balance every time I turn around because a different light source is illuminating the subject(s), going inside & out, etc.

For 24PA, I've heard anything & everything that's auto will take a LOT longer to work, but I think I also recall hearing that the AWB feature's not available at all in 24PA.

Now, for regular scene file 1/2 shooting, do others have a good experience with AWB? When I look at the footage on my regular consumer camera that always AWB's, skin tones always look good .... not so with my DVX100a.

So, just looking for some feedback before I switch to AWB for my next "run-n-gun" shoot. Thanks in advance, folks!

AWB might be passable if you're running from one single-source location to another.

But if you find yourself in a mixed-source location (fluorescents above, some incandescents elsewhere, and sunlight streaming through a window...) your colors are going to be all over he place.

I think you'd be more satisfied with a single white balance, even if it's wrong. (And if it's wrong, you could probably fix it in post...but not easily if it changes every 73 frames.)

Ah, some EXCELLENT points ... didn't think about all the variations I could get if it DID look bad anyway ... fixing it then in post would suck.
