Auto versus Manual in DVX100B

Hi All camera experts,

I am newbie for my DVX100B and may be my first time try to use manual control versus auto control of the camera. My question is everybody know that manual control can give the the right amount of light , contrast and focus if you know and control correctly. But if run n gun shooter for outside event such as wedding, sport which the scences changes rapidly too fast to use the manual control and you may be loosing or missing some good scences.
On the filming short movie is different, you have time to set up the light and everything then you ask actor to do action. That is quite controllable right ?
Question I have is that does the DVX100B allow half auto and half manual, rather than full manual ie can the camera take care of the exposure so that I can concentrate in focusing and composition ?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response.

If I do not manually AWB, and let DVX100B does auto control does my video clip look dull in color or just OK versus the manual AWB with saturated color. If auto function in DVX100B not that good why they put it in the camera. Because what I have read from this forum . Most of the DVX100B users are using manual control and void the auto function

again thank you

if you know you're going to be all indoors or all outside, (meaning all of your shots will have a similar light source) then setting the white balance should be a really easy way to improve your colors. its not something you'll have to switch midway through a sporting event for example.

I reccomend going out and taking some test footage under different conditions. You're footage won't look good unless you know how to use the camera. It's okay to be new, we all start somewhere. but at the same time, you are 100% capable of learning how to use this tool to its fullest so why not do it? Shoot some short movies or some test footage using all manual features, and use it as an opportunity to learn what all the buttons, knobs and switches do, and how they affect the footage. You'll learn how to set it properly for quick changes if they are necessary.

the white balance isnt much of an issue. as was said above, if ur at a setting u simply set it and its good. if u go inside from outdoors for example at a wedding, simply set the white balance again as soon as u go in and u shouldnt miss anything. theres no real reason to be letting the camera white balance itself.

The only thing that I do not like about auto iris, or auto anything for that matter, is that it can often change in the middle of your shot. The cam won't care if you are trying to create a siloette look, it will just try to get the exposure how it "thinks" it should be. The dvx is a sick cam but it really doesn't know anything, have you seen dvx footage that looked like a home video? That was because whoever shot it shot it with everything set to auto. You bought the cam, you take control of it. Make it your slave.
