Auto Shut-off Cylinder Lock Question

The Dude Abides
I've searched the forum and have seen the threads discussing this error message and what some of the causes are. Here's my problem:

I got the error message on my DVX100 one day without having done anything unusual - no knocks or bumps and no temperature extremes. I took the camera to an authorized Panasonic service center in Santa Clara. Several days later the service guy called me and said that while he had the camera on the bench the message went away and the camera was working fine. He didn't seem to know much about what the error meant and said he had no idea why it went away. Since then on several occasions the mysterious cylinder lock appears. On most occasions if I futz with the camera by turning it on and off many times and try different tapes I eventually get the error to go away and can use the camera. Obviously, this is no way to live and just this weekend I was at a location and got the error. I didn't have time to mess with the error so I shot the footage I needed with a backup camera.

I am clueless as to why this intermittant error is occurring and I have a sense that the local service guy is not up to the task. Can anybody suggest any solutions or at least venture to guess what underlies this behavior?

Thanks
