Auto ISO in Creative Movie Mode is missing on my GH2

Has anyone got AUTO ISO available in Creative Motion Picture Mode on their GH2s?

On the bottom of page 90 of the manual (US) it says we should have it available to use.

I know some of you don't use it, but for me it's useful considering it seems to be stepless when adjusting. You have it available to use when you're in any other Movie mode. Plus Creative Movie Mode is the only one with access to 1080p24.

Might be a good reason for Panasonic to give us a firmware update.

Speaking for myself, disabling auto-ISO during video recording was one of the main reasons I hacked my firmware in the first place. I'm guessing the reason nobody responded to your message is that they, like me, are grateful not to have to deal with auto-ISO anymore and haven't even thought about it until seeing your message reminding them of the bad old days when auto-ISO made poor decisions and ruined many shots.

There's a lot of debate on this forum but one sentiment that seems unanimous is that the more manual control for video shooting, the better. Auto-ISO is useful for consumer point and shoot camcorders and casual home videos but not for serious shooters looking to control camera parameters for a specific look.

So choice isn't a good thing? AUTO ISO is suppose to be one of the options along all the locked ISO settings of 160-3200 according to the manual at least

You have a hacked GH2?

No, I have a GF13, but will soon have a GH2 in hand. AFAIK the GH2 hasn't been hacked yet, but it seems to not need hacking to get where it needs to be for pro-level shooting.

I haven't had a chance to play with a GH2 yet but if it treats video anything like the GH1/GF1, you're far better off with manual ISO if you want your footage to look its best. Why would you rather give over this make-or-break decision to the camera than set it yourself after gauging lighting conditions etc.? Auto-ISO causes exposure shifts no matter how "stepless" it may be. Anyone trying to eke out the best and most evenly exposed video is going to choose manual ISO every time.

Maybe this is the wrong forum to be asking about auto-ISO. A more consumer-level forum like dpreview might be a better place to get auto-ISO advice from people who use that option.

I actually think auto ISO is perfect for some scenarios. How else do you all adjust exposure during filming? If you click the wheel then it will have an obvious affect on the video. The Auto ISO adjusts the exposure very smoothly.

You can't be in full manual mode and enable auto ISO in video or in stills. I suggest using shutter priority with auto iso in shots where exposure is going to vary quickly and broadly.

To each his own. Auto ISO, auto exposure, auto focus, I get my best results by avoiding auto anything and manually controlling parameters myself. As for adjusting ISO on the fly while recording, well, if that's important to you, then yes, Auto ISO is for you. I prefer shooting manually, and treating each scene as a separate shot, with any adjustments made between shots if needed.
