Auto Gain?

I am working with a DP on a shoot and we are using the HVX200. He mentioned to me that he loves this camera except for one thing. When he is shooting dark scenes the camera automatically raises the gain when the scene is "too dark" - loosing any manual adjustment below a certain level of darkness.

I have this camera, and love it, and have never run into this, but then again, I have never shot any night scenes.

Has anybody ever heard of this?

Is there a setting that needs to be adjusted?

If this is true is there a workaround?

Not possible. The HVX doesn't have any auto gain.

Well, that's actually only partly true -- you can get it to go into auto, but only if you put the AUTO/MANUAL switch on "Auto". If it's on "manual", there is no automatic picture gain applied. Ever.
