is there an option of manual focus on DVX100A and how's it's performance? thanx for answers, I am thiinking of buing new dvx100a for us, so I'd like to be sure about all the details... It's nearly impossible to shoot a film w/o any manual focus possibility...

Sometimes I forget that cameras are made with that feature.

Ever try using someone elses consumer camcorder or your own after having the DVX? It's a nightmare :D! I honestly get pissed at the camera and people wonder what is wrong with me!

Re: Auto focus vs manual focussing?

Yep. I used to think the focus ring on my TRV38 was OK. I actually really liked it. After shooting with the DVX, I was going to use my little sony for taking a quick still shot and found the manual focus to be almost worthless.

Re: Auto focus vs manual focussing?

as a photographer, I can understand that... no comparism to manual focussing :)

For me, auto focus is a time-saver if I don't have time to manually adjust the focus. But if you want to focus on a very specific area in your scene like the eyes of your subject, then manual focus can give you that control to choose where to pull a sharp focus.

Also, you should keep it on full manual if you don't want the auto focus to hunt back & forth. For example, you're interviewing a subject in the foreground & there are people passing by in the background. If you put your cam to auto focus, then the focus will keep adjusting itself when a person pass by for example.

You're right, but you could say the same after using a real lens focus and then the DVX focus ring. The DVX focus ring is pretty good, but it's hard to use in real-life situations. With the real focus ring on a 2/3" lens and a good pro b/w viewfinder you are infinitely faster and more accurate than with the DVX focus ring and lcd display. However you can at least use the DVX manual focus in some situations, while with all other prosumer/consumer camcorders you can just forget about manual focussing at all...
