Has anybody figured out why the auto-focus sometimes takes a while to kick in?

I mean, you've turned the function on, you're focusing on something far away, it's clearly out of focus, and takes up to 10 seconds or more to come into focus.

It seems to be working intermittently for me.

Any input would be appreciated.
 
I've observed that too. That's why I use full manual focus now. Auto is way behind the action and seems pretty much useless in situations where you're not tracking a single subject.
