Auto focus noises

My relatively new DVX100a makes noise when in autofocus mode--you can hear things whirring when it's seeking focus. It's loud enough to be heard a good 15 feet away.

Is this normal? Signs of bad or worse things to come? (If it's normal, it's pretty loud.)
 
I don't think that's normal. I sometimes hear a slight noise when I right next to the camera but not 15 feet away!

You may have a bad lens unit. It may also just be bad ribbon connections on the lens.
