Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

I shipped two today that were diverted from old orders that just weren't shipping, but the next 38 cameras won't arrive until Friday.

Hey. Long time reader first time poster. Just saw this, thought I'd share... Aparently PriceRitePhoto is getting their comeupins.

Thomas Hawk, a dedicated amateur photographer, thought he was getting a good deal on a Canon EOS 5D camera when he ordered it online for $3000. But Hawk says the owner "went ballistic" when hawk refused to buy a bunch of accessories, and that the owner refused to sell him the camera as promised.

Alex Ravenel says: "[Hawk's] post is currently in the 'Popular' list on del.icio.us, has hundreds of comments, and upwards of 4300 Diggs. The scammer has been reported to the NYAG office and the BBB, negative feedback has been listed on every review site the author could find, and the the scammer's office has been flooded with phonecalls and emails."
"I will make sure you will never be able to place an order on the internet again." "I'm an attorney, I will sue you." "I will call the CEO of your company and play him the tape of this phone call." "I'm going to call your local police and have two officers come over and arrest you." "You'd better get this through your thick skull." "You have no idea who you are dealing with." These are all direct threats that I received today from an individual who identified himself as Steve Phillips, the manager of PriceRitePhoto in Brooklyn, New York when I called to inquire about my order with them. My crime? Telling him that I planned to write an article about my unfortunate experience with his company regarding the camera order I had placed with him yesterday.

EVS, I'm in love with you. It's like having my own personal Production Consultants.

Thanks PJC! :)

Wow TxJim, that is quite a link. I called a similar type company 4 years ago before I worked at EVS, and I asked them:

"I wanna buy this 50-500mm lens you have in x magazine, how much is it?"
---Response, "What is the price you see?"
"Well what is your price?"
---"What you see"
"Okay, $200" ($400 below the ad)
---"That's fine"
"Really?"
---"Sure."
"Okay, that is $400 below the ad price."
---"What are you trying to do?"
"Get a real price from you."
---"Ok, it's $600"
"How about if I wanna pay $200"
---"Sure just give me your credit card"
"What? Don't you want my address, etc.?"
---"Sure."
"Forget it..."
---"F- you man!"
Click....

I just can't believe legit photo mags let these guys advertise in their pages.... That's what lends these guys a sense of legitimacy to the average consumer, "Well if x mag lets them advertise, they have to be legit, because I trust the mag..." I just wish magazines did some more research before letting someone advertise there... You see these guys with these huge 2 pages spreads...

Amazon is usually an amalgam of dealers, which are just organized on that site. You'll have to see if that dealer is authorized. Jan has said Amazon themselves are not.

Yes the 100A is off our site because it has been discontinued and we sold the last one months ago. However the 100B is an excellent successor to a great camera.

I'm tellin' ya... the DVX100C (fictionally rumored in Cafe DVX forum) is the way to go. Everything else is just a letter behind.

Tommy "Ugly Blonde Guy from EVS" Mack

100C for serious? I know you said fictionally rumored,.,,, but,, any whispers about something like that ( before i pick up my dvx100b )

No Papa, not serious; please don't take Tommy seriously, that would offend him. Just lol and ask him about the PVS (Pixel-Vision Systems) Upgrade to the DVX100B.

Beware of Boro Park, Brooklyn

Beware of Boro Park, Brooklyn

Avoid at all costs -- any dealers in Brooklyn, Boro Park or nearby areas. As most of us know the majority of them are scam artists and con men. What most of us do not know, unless you are from this part of New York City is that complaining to Eliot Spitzer's office -- the attorney general of NY will do you absolutely no good, as the majority of these scam artists are Hasidic Jews, who have a huge political power stronghold over the politics of New York City, from Spitzer's office all the way to our billionaire mayor's desk. I am not a racist by any means (also Jewish), so I know what this secretive criminal community is up to. Do yourself a favor, put these criminals out of business and buy your electronics at trusted dealers, not off the back of a stationwagon parked in the driveway of a mock "temple". These people do NOT pay taxes and contribute NOTHING to the community outside of their own. BOYCOTT BORO PARK!:thumbdown

Hmmm, I know there are places to avoid, but from the West Coast I can't be sure exactly what's in what area in N.Y. I and several colleagues have purchased from B&H over the years with no problem. Well, once I did actually boycott them for a year or so after some of the sales people were rude, but they got less rude and I've gone back. As far as I know they are considered reputable, so I'm wondering if you include them in your list of places to avoid?

I don't think he is including B&H, who have the "NY Minute" thing going, but definitely reputable dealers. Before I worked at EVS, I had bought some filters and an SLR from them. One of their top guys shows up on other forums every so often and answers questions.
