Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Hi all,

I just ordered a DVX and rucksack from EVS. You guys ARE great ( as if that needs to be reiterated :) Spoke with Debbie on the phone, she was kind and helpful. EVS is definitely a group I feel comfortable with.

The camera will be used for filming experimental mountain biking.

Hi All - My first post!

Thanks to the info and feedback on this forum, I spent more than I expected, but felt more educated at the justification of the excess cost.

I just purchased the DVX-100A through Willoughby's in NYC this morning (they asked me to write a review, thus I am). Very knowledgeable, good stock. I went with Willoughby's mainly because they are easy to find and reach here in the local area (in case of returns and repairs) and they offered the entire accessories package with the book and Magic Bullet Software (which B&H doesn't/didn't).

Only drawbacks compared to B&H and EVS:

- Their 4 year APS extended warranty is all they offer and it's $350, :undecided also, their repair warranty requires a $50 shipping fee as opposed to $30 for Mack Camera's Warranty.

-The TAX is disgusting here!! +$325.00!! I should have just ordered online and had them ship it for $15 bucks to Jersey.

With the 10 hour battery and a cheap lens filter, a shade over $4000.00, but I'm secure in the overall product, it's nice to actually SEE and play with it before plunking down the coin.

I'm very much looking forward to doing some filming, having this good of a camera is at the least, relatively inspiring!

I bought my dvxae online at Global Media Pro (globalmediapro.com)half a year ago. One month ago the headset monitor of the camera broke down. The repair would cost about 418 euro's. Since then everything from their side is focused on not paying the bill. If you want more information send me an email at martin@maat.tv and I will send you an extended email exchange with these guys.

Best,

Martin

bikefilms, thank you very much for your business! I will relay to debbie your thanks.

AADVuser, if you need any accessories, please feel free to contact me. Just to let you know, a typical 4-year Mack warranty for the DVX is $174.95 (DVXuser price). :cheesy:

Why I choose EVS over B&H

Why I choose EVS over B&H

This 17 year old kid is about to but a DVX100a and posted a thread asking about where he should get it. Here's the original thread:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?p=260877

I advised him to go with EVS. What follows is my pro con breakdown of EVS vs. B&H, -- a copy of my post on that thread ... but first a few disclaimers:
1) the only negatives I say about EVS are that it's website isn't the greatest (functionally - try finding the widescreen LCD overlays on it) and that its return policy isn't as liberal as B&H. Both the EVS website and their return policy are more than adequate however. :)
2)Any reference to the EVS staff as "guys who sound like they surf and smoke pot" is meant as a compliment -- could have said lade back, with a Zen like appreciation for beauty in the seemingly trivial, i.e., surfing, the DVX100a, baseball, a truly excellent ham and cheese sandwich, etc.

Anyway, here's the pasted post from the above thread:

I just bought $10K in gear over the last month.
Started with B&H before I knew about EVS and now I shop with them.

My advice = Shop on B&H website. Put all the items you want in your basket online. Then call EVS and order the items from EVS. Make sure you tell them you are a DVXuser and you will get that discount or they will generally match or beat the B&H price.

Basically, EVS will probably be excited about helping a young guy get the stuff he needs at an affordable price. B&H won't care who you are or what the camera means to you personally.

Here's a comparison / contrast breakdown:
B&H and EVS = quality, new, not grey market, not B stock, A stock gear.

B&H = guys who take bazillions of calls a day, work in a giant call center, and won't remember you next time you call, or five minutes after your call, and have a good general knowledge on DV.

EVS = a bunch of California guys, who sound like they surf and smoke pot, have probably read or are aware of the discussions on this forum that matter most to DVXusers, and would like nothing better than to talk you about how cool the camera is and help you trick it out, and will GENUINELY be as excited as you about how cool all this crap is. They are also likely remember you next time you call, and certainly will of there is any problem with your order as they will track any issues through the person that originally helped you.

B&H = better return policy, though EVS is okay. The return policy and quality must be the reason people say B&H's customer service is good, because otherwise they act like you would expect a bunch of harried New Yorkers in a stressful high volume call center to act "Yeah, like I have time for you and your problems." "Yes. It's an excellent camera. NEXT!" (not actual quotes, seems to be their subtext however). Especially if you sound young, they may be impatient with you. They intimidate me and I’m 33, and lived in NYC for 3 years.

EVS = but as I said you will get the same quality A stock at EVS, just be firm if you need a return and feel you shouldn't pay a restock fee. They need to keep any losses to a minimum obviously as they are smaller than B&H, but they will work with you. It's just not a forgone conclusion that you can return anything like at B&H because of the volume.

EVS= If you get in a worst case scenario situation -which you won't- but if you did and you threatened to ***** about some problem you had with them in this forum, that would mean something to EVS - a lot. But B&H wouldn't give a damn because they are so big and are not a part of the DVXuser community. So you would have some leverage even if EVS wasn't cool, which they are. Their participation in this community is just another guarantee - for the same reason two people stand up in front of a community to get married (supposedly) - they are accountable to all those folks they took their vows in front of. EVS is similarly beholden to DVXuser.com

EVS website = hard to find anything but the big items, and frequent accessories like tapes.

EVS = again, if you call them and say something like "I need some of those plastic film thingies I read about on DVXuser.com that you can put over your LCD screen to mask it out with letterbox dimensions so you frame for 16X9 when you shoot and letterbox in post." And they will say "Sure". B&H would be clueless.

Welcome to the club. You will learn a lot about the camera and DV in general around here. You will probably also learn a few things that will put a few extra hairs on your chest.

I actually set it up for people I'm working with to check out and get excited about working with me. I'll revamp it as a cool link / resource page soon.

Is willoughbys authorized or they lost their authorization. A previous post indicates they are sending out grey market items
Also is Amazon.com authorized or no? They have a good price today
thanks!

No one has mentioned Ebay. There are sellers with great feedback selling the 100A for $2,800. Are they any good? Thanks.

I actually got mine that way, for $2700 and came out OK, but I was lucky, wouldn't recommend it.

I wouldn't do it under any circumstances unless you are sure it is US stock and still has a warranty.

But why would you want to for buy used or form a non reputable dealer for anything in the $2500 - $3000 range with Panasonics rebate for new 100a'a now up to $500 plus extras like Magic Bullet and an extra battery.

EVS has the 100a listed for $3500 - the $500 rebate is $3000. is saving $200 worth loosing warranty, customer service if there's a problem, and a NEW vs used camera. I know $200 is a fair amount, but it's not like your saving $1000 or even a $500. You get so much for that $200 - $400 more.

And the longer you can wait into fall the more the the price will drop because of the 100b and HVX 200.

Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on ebay. Look at their packages. They sell cheap quality accessories with them. I just don't trust a vendor that sells a great cam with cheap accessories like that. That was another reason I didn't buy from buydig.com. The accessories that they advertised were a joke.

I guess it comes down to you, if you are confident and willing to take a risk. As far as I'm concerned there is always a risk when buying off a dealer that isn't authorized.

At EVS everything is quality and they know their stuff.

But hey that's just me. Any route you go, good luck.

What is the current as of today list of Authorized US sellers? (preferably with a website) I see EVS, Birns and Sawyer, Able, B&H Sammy's etc. Just want to know the current full list so I can compare.

Just do searches by Zip code on Panasonic's Dealer locator, and that will bring up all of them for any zipcode.

Good people... sometimes good prices...
This is not a commercial... O.K... maybe a little... But I've recently retired from broadcasting here, and they are the go-to place for equipment around these parts...
