Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

I purchased my AG-DVX100A from PROFEEL last month, and everything went very smooth, I even got a good price on a second battery and MQPRO tapes. There was a mix-up in the shipping that cause a one day delay (shippers fault), however, Profeel sent me a free filter and $30 gift certificate (this is not the kind of behavior you get from scammers). YES, they, like most will inquire about purchasing other items, but if you know this in advance you can actually use it to your advantage if you actually need other items and have competitive prices, as in my case Profeel matched the prices and I got everything in one order.

Additionally, I just confirmed today (via phone and on-line status) that my rebate is approved, the check was cut, and should be arriving in the next day or two.

Yes, I have the camera, I got it days after paying for it.

Keep in mind that I got everything in writing first: The guarantee about the rebate, a guarantee about the warranty, a guarantee about the product being a US version, a guarantee about the DVD, Book, and software included. Sure, perhaps an email from the company is not the most legally binding form of a contract (I honestly don't know, and don't pretend to be a lawyer), but I also found that other companies wouldn't put certain things in writing, or they had to fess up when I asked explicit questions and required the response to be in email (I would not rely on anything said verbally over the phone). I also checked other reviews of them and most were good. So, after getting my answers in email, and talking with them on the phone, (them meaning a woman named Sharon), I decided to trust them and the experience has been great so far!

So, the morale of the story is:

YES, people get scammed, YES, there are unscrupulous dealers out there, and YES, there ARE also good deals from honest people.

*fyi, one of the companies I spoke with first was 'Abe's of Maine', and the experience was horrific (but I ended up getting my $3,000 refunded, but it took a lot of calls, emails, and threats)

I bought my Panasonic AG-DVX100A from BEACHCAMERA.com and I'm impressed with this company. I got a tracking number the next day. It was packaged really good too.
They are NOT gray market. The camera came with barry's book + DVD and the magic bullet software. The only problem with these people is the customer service sucks. The guy who answers the phones is not a friendly guy.

Beach may or may not be gray market -- depends on where they got their cameras from that day. You got lucky. Other buyers may not.

The thing about an authorized dealer is that they have a contractual relationship with the manufacturer, and they can buy their cameras directly from the manufacturer. Only authorized dealers can do that.

Non-authorized dealers have to buy their cameras where they can get them. So the product they offer may be imported, or it may be genuine US product if they happen to find an authorized dealer who's willing to sell to them. But they cannot guarantee that they will have US product, because they have no ability to buy directly from the manufacturer. Some people may get the real deal, and the next guy who orders may get an imported, un-warrantied camera because that's all that the dealer could find available on the market. There's no way to know.

Ya thats true Your better off paying more and buying from a trusted website. I actually just found a hole in my $110 panasonic bag from them.

Why does beach camera have multuiple web sites?

Authorized dealers in Canada

Authorized dealers in Canada

I fear this is futile - but is there a list of authorized dealers in Canada - Vancouver more specifically? I've tried contacting Panasonic Canada, but the people I get to talk to have no clue and are unable to answer any questions. The list of authorized dealers on the website covers anyone and everyone that carries ANY panasonic product (vacuums, lawnmowers, toothbrushes, shavers) but noone can answer me what authorized dealers carry the DVX (because none of the listed ones in my area do - they just carry consumer stuff)

I'm getting more and more frustrated and turned off by this whole thing. first of all, the DVX is more expensive and comes with nothing when you buy it in Canada, seccond they don't answer questions when you ask them and third, they don't seem to know what they are doing. I really want to buy a DVX but I'm getting so pissed off at the lousy treatment and irrational pricing that I'm considering looking elsewhere. Unbelieveably it looks like it would be cheaper for me to travel to Seattle, buy the camera there, carry it across the border and pay tax than it would be to buy it localy. and then I'd at least get the book and Magic Bullet (but not the $300 rebate). something is very VERY wrong here and I'm baffled that noone in Panasonic seems to care.

How about www.studio-exchange.com? They say they are an "Panasonic dealer" - are they authorized?
I believe Studio Exchange is an authorized dealer (as far as I remember). They mostly sell used broadcast gear and are OK guys. My friend owns Broadcast Exchange in Culver City, a similar type of company, who also sells used broadcast equipment. He's also an authorized JVC dealer, I believe. If you're in the L.A. area, Broadcast Exchange (contact info available at broadcastexchange.com) is a great place to buy used broadcast gear like BetacamSP decks, Digital Betacam VTRs, HDCAM VTRs, BVW400s/600s, lenses, etc.

Personally, I buy most of my stuff from B+H because of their HUGE inventory and decent pricing, lack of sales tax, and honest shipping costs. B+H is possibly the most reputable mail order house in the country. Most other NY/NJ mail order houses are outright liars. When I can, I'll also support our local vendors here like Bel Air Camera and Samy's Camera too.

Hi joachimca

"Unbelieveably it looks like it would be cheaper for me to travel to Seattle, buy the camera there, carry it across the border and pay tax than it would be to buy it localy."

I bought my DVX in February...I too live in Canada...I bought a complete set of gear from EVS (the DVX, tripod, mike, wireles lav, etc) in California...granted, if something goes wrong with my DVX, I have to ship it to the states, but...for the difference in price, the service I got and the "added value", it was well worth it!!! Yes, it's really sad that Canadians can't get decent service in their own country, but the bottom line is "your" pocket!!!

Give Rush a call, or email him...you won't regret it!!!

Gerry_Emm - FWIW!

thier item description says "(The price depends on accessories of course). "
sounds fishy, and the template looks just like digitalliquidators.com
call either EVS, Abel cine tech, or Birns&sawyer

I just got off the phone with B&H. They told me that the DVX100a that they sell DOES NOT include the MB software or DVX book/DVD.

Does anyone know any authorized dealers that sell the DVX100a with MB and DVX book/DVD besides EVS?

Thanks

B&H is likely mistaken. They're a massively huge organization that sells hundreds (probably thousands) of different types of products; camcorders are just one of many, many products they sell, and the DVX is just one of the many, many camcorders they sell. So I'd say that whoever you talked to was wrong. Or, they were referring to an import/gray-market version (does B&H sell gray-market DVXes also? I know they sometimes carry gray market, but they clearly label it as gray market so you can make an informed choice).

Any authorized dealer in the country will have the MB and DVX Book/DVD bundle -- that's the only kind that Panasonic USA distributes.

The one small exception seems that it the price is lower than the $3395 price on the new page and you have found yourself on a page that is selling a camera for $2795, and it says new, you have funneled yourself to the used equipment page and those are gray cameras. I know of about 5 individuals that have purchased these and are regretting it today, because there warranty is in Canada.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Hey Jan,

Is there a DVC7 board anywhere for those of us who are beginners or are working on making/saving enough to get a DVX100A? I admit this is the coolest site I've seen but I don't want to be like the kid brother always wanting to hang around.

Besides, for what it is, I think the DVC7 very nicely occupies a niche no other camera does.

Thanks.

i just bought my dvx100a from RUSH/TOMMY at EVS last friday 6/10/2005 around closing time... i searched high and low like most dvxusers for the best price online, in ads, etc... filtering all the info from these valuable posts regarding authorized dealers, etc... thank god i found dvxuser before i purchased... this site is ridiculously informative.

one very important thing i did realize is that asking the retailer in person or on the phone 'are you an authorized panasonic dealer?' was that they will almost always tell you they are authorized... 'yes, if we sell it we are authorized' is what i heard alot. the sales people who respond may even believe the store they work at everyday IS authorized. many of the retailers i checked with, said yes, but then i put their zip into panasonics authorized dealer locator and they werent in there. surprise!!! the best thing you can do is check on the panasonic site for the authorized dealer in the desired zip code... that way you KNOW if you are getting the $300 dollar rebate or not. the last thing you want is to save a hundred or two [or less] and find out you WONT be getting the rebate, magic bullet cd, free barry book and dvd [informative!] or the 10 free tapes, and spare battery! NOT EVEN TO MENTION THE FRIGGIN WARRANTY!!!

i read so many horror stories on this forum about about buying online, grey market, scams, additional crap attached to the sale, etc... i wanted to be very certain that my cash was being well spent.

even living in los angeles it was worth going and opening the box in the evs store, looking at it, playing with it for a minute, etc... in fact i was lucky, cause i called rush that morning to see if the new shipment was in cause it kept getting delayed. i just got off the phone with rush on friday 6/10/2005 and he said checkback monday... i was bummed cause i wanted it NOW! then he called back a few minutes later and said they were unloading a fresh shipment off the truck in the warehouse downstairs as we spoke... the rest is history.

ps, even paying tax being a cali resident was still cheaper than most legit authorized dealers cause of the discount for cash, etc. wasnt about to wait on a 5 day hold for check or cashiers to clear!

i know all this has probably been said before but just wanted to share the purchase experience real quick-

THANKS TO RUSH AND TOMMY AT EVS, was a pleasure!
will definitely be back...probably today to get some other goodies!
