Authorization.

So it's the Art Department's PA's birthday, so we surprised her with a cake.

Two dozen crew singing 'Happy Birthday,' followed by one Supervising Producer bellowing WHO AUTHORIZED THIS CAKE?!

Wow,

Karl, that was really nice of you. Too many productions ignore PAs. This weeks one for me, we had two younger PAs start crying after being yelled at for something trivial. I only took care of the aftermath.

Very nice and thoughtful. And I think that is absolutely hysterical with the authorization.

Anybody who abuses PAs within my earshot has a problem. I'll tell a producer to go screw himself and find another designer, before I'll stand by and watch junior staff get pointlessly abused.

I wish I was on set when that happened. Apparently it occurred when I was off set. I walked out with my water and a good friend of mine and other script supervisor to talk about some issues that were going on (that is another story in and of itself, she was the only younger girl on set - it doesn't take much imagination to figure out the issue) and when I rounded the corner there was our new PA crying. It was her first day on set...

We talked with her for a bit and calmed her down, and came to realize it was our AD and UPM. The situation (I believe) was addressed later when the director/producer pulled our AD aside.

It is really unfortunate things like that happen. I've been treated poorly as a PA before as well. But really Karl, I admire you for taking that stance.

i would have told him that i stole a 20 out of his wallet to pay for it.

I should point out that none of the PAs on our show are being mistreated, so far as I know.

Generally speaking, we're a happy show.

Come on. Everybody knows there's no birthday cakes allowed for PAs or Key Grips. Didn't you get the memo?

Seriously, please tell me that Supervisor didn't get a piece of the cake. What a jerk.
